Author Topic: What would Dre's legacy be if he had written all those dope lyrics he spit  (Read 1004 times)

you guys realize how dumb you sound?  Saying that Dre has wack lyrics, when he has, throughout his career, worked with the all-time greatest writers in hip-hop history.  His team of ghost writers boasts such names as Ice Cube, DOC, Eminem, and many more big names in hip-hop have collaborated and written lyrics for Dre.  He has a team of ghostwriters constantly at his disposal, picking and choosing only the cream of the crop of what they come up with for him.  And even after all that, he will only release it if is game-changing and trend-setting, and sets a standard for the whole industry to follow.

So that's Dre, and you all don't know shit if you think Dre's lyrics are wack when you have that kind of team behind you.

the lyrics were tailor made for Dre, meaning these writers voluntarily dumbed down their lyrics to fit Dre's image. in the end most of the lyrics that Dre has recited throughout his career sound either childish, nonsensical, awkward or just average. take "Still D.R.E.", written by an acknowledged lyricist, Jay-Z. are the lyrics witty or dope ? not particularly, i think it's corny but that's only my opinion. but what is a fact is that it's not on par with Jay-Z's usual well crafted lyricism. even a short verse like Jay's verse on Get Throwed shit on Still DRE.

oh, and considering your extremely narrow perspective on Hip Hop and close-minded attitude towards everything you don't know (i.e. everything not related to Death Row, Nas, or Dead Prez),  if there's anybody who doesn't know shit about Hip Hop here, it's definitely you, not us, dude.

and yet that great team of writers has wrote some wack ass lyrics for dre .  you realize how dumb you sound ?

" dre´s lyrics must be dope because they were written by people who write dope shit for themselves. "   what deep or great is in dr dre´s lyrics? for fuck´s sake, i´m  a fan of the chronic but the lyrics are mostly on some bullshit  - the music and the flow is much more important on that album .

So your theory is the lyrics are wack because they were "dumbed down for Dre".  I agree the subject matter Dre raps about isn't exactly rocket science, but bottom line is fuckin dope.  And that is only obvious to anybody who isn't preoccupied with being a hater.   It's obvious simply because Dre has been at a level for so long where virtually any of the greatest hip-hop lyricists have been willing to write for him, and he's only taken the best of the best of what they have created.  So if it wasn't the dopest, hottest shit, then Dre would of never released it.  Simple as that.

If somebody submitted so-called "wack" lyrics to Dre, Dre would just reject those lyrics until somebody comes up with some bombazz shit.

...This is simple as logic, but for haters who are afraid to state the obvious, ya'll won't admit.

look you're creating haters. i'm a fan of Dre's music. but let's be real for a second. you're a blind fan who dismisses Biggie's lyrics as "too pornographic" while defending Snoop's because he is a "pimp" and praising Dre's catalogue. who's the hater now ??

people are willing to write for Dre because he's the biggest producer in the game and because it looks good on a resume no matter how good the lyrics actually are. you seriously think the lyrics taken from Next Episode, Let Me Ride or Fuck Wit Dre Day are dope ?? I beg to disagree. The really dope lyrics that Dre rapped are in my opinion on "express yourself", "always into something", "nothing but a g thang" and "forgot about dre", and "the message". Dre chose the lyrics according to how it would make him look. and Dre has always gone for that "tough guy" image, which doesn't suit him IMO. sounds forced and corny. always has. but Dre has always been solid on the mic cause he knows music and knows how and when to punch. plus he has an impressive voice. but his lyrics have never been anything to brag about. even if they were written by Eminem or Royce. but obviously you're too much of a groupie to have an objective outlook on your role models.

I don,t agree one bit with Infinite, but I think the verse on Still Dre really dope

Still, I stay close to the heat
And even when I was close to defeat, I rose to my feet
My life is like a soundtrack I wrote to the beat
Treat my rap like Cali weed, I smoke till I sleep
Wake up in the A.M., compose a beat
I bring the fire till you're soaking in your seat
It's not a fluke, it's been tried, I'm the troop
It's "Turn Out the Lights" from the World Class Wreckin' Cru
I'm still at it, After-mathematic
In the home of drivebys and ak-matics
Swap meets, sticky green, and bad traffic
I dip through then I get skin, D-R-E

No, I'm actually a fan of Biggie, and consider him one of the greatest lyricists.  That was just a criticism for why I didn't think he was the greatest of all-time, and why there's a few artists I would put ahead of him.  Since your mental game is still at the level of a sperm cell, let me give you an analogy to help your infantile intellect better understand.  If I say I think Kobe and Jordan are better than Lebron, and that Lebron has never won a championship, does that mean that I think Lebron James sucks?  No, dumbfuck, it's just a small blemish on an otherwise spectacular career.

Okay.  Yeah, you make a lot of sense.  So Dre sits back with all the greatest artists in the world willing to write for him, and he says... "No, I can't accept those lyrics, they are too dope.  I need something that is wack."

nah
i just want 15 pages of endless blahzay blahzay

Triple OG Rapsodie

Infinite is trolling again....pay him no mind. Only way I would give Dre credit for being a lyricist is if he had written all his lyrics AND all those lyrics were on the level of Forgot About Dre. And even then he wouldn't be top 10.

i may have an infantile intellect but i'm still objective enough to call a spade a spade and say when the lyrical content is weak even coming from an acclaimed rapper. you're the one calling out people for being sheep and bandwagon followers just because they follow the general, accepted opinion. but what you're doing here is similar. basically refusing the debate and dismissing other people's argument because Dre is (according to you) the best of the best and has worked with the cream of the crop. now that's a sheepish rationale.

so I'll stand by my previous statement. Dre's lyrics have never been extraordinary, mostly because Dre chose a particular image to appear to the public and the lyrics needed to convey such an image didn't have to be witty, well spun or whatever, just hardcore. it's precisely because Dre is a trendsetter and knows what people want that the lyrics lacked dopeness IMO. he knew after NWA parted ways and he went solo he had to convey that hardcore gangsta image that the media coveted even though he was more of a music nerd, so he decided to get lyrics that conveyd a harder than the hardest type of guy image. and that's precisely what Eazy-E dissed him for. "all of a sudden Dr Dre is a G-Thang but on his own album cover he was a she thang" (Real Muthaphukkin' G'z) "I still express, yo, I don't smoke weed or sess *BITCH*" (down to tha last roach). after he left Aftermath he tried to appeal to a more mature crowd with "been there done that" but that flopped so he went down the same ole gangsta road again with dumbed down lyrics, and the rest is history. the bottom line is, it's all about image for a mainstream person like Dre, so in the end, lyrics don't even matter that much. that's why I don't think Dre's status is affected by the fact that he doesn't write his lyrics.

Infinite, public opinion is obviously against you here, i understand your logic behind having an amazing team, but logic doesn't equate to good music. Show us your top 10 Dre verses as proof of your argument. Dre is my favourite artist of all time, but I'm objective enough to know his dopeness as a rapper is in his delivery and vocal production, not his lyrics. "Bodyguard", "Forgot About Dre", "The Message" and "Express Yourself" are all dope lyrically, but like someone said, they're just drops in an ocean of lyrically average yet dope sounding raps.
