It's not like they're super wack lyrics or anything, they just aren't the sort of lyrics that get
you into the best lyricists category... they're just meant to fit the beat and sound good overall,
because Dre is a producer and likes it just to sound cool, it's not mean to be like crazy MCing skills on display.

With someone like DOC ghostwriting, he knows Dre isn't gonna do a track where it's just like an MC display,
it's not like he's writing "Portrait of a Masterpiece" for Dre to do, because that's just a straight MCing track. That's
the sort of track that gets you into the "great lyricists" debate though.

If you look at any of the premier lyricists, Rakim, G Rap, Big Daddy Kane, etc. they all have a lot of tracks
where it could be any beat, the beat doesn't even matter, it's just them going off on a crazy MCing spree.
Dre doesn't make tracks like that because it's more about the beat.

Also, a lot of the best Dre tracks don't even have Dre on them that much. And no one has given him
their best verses ever, like even on Forgot About Dre, Eminem saved the dopest verse for himself in the middle.

yeah. dre raps live better than many others who just scream on the mic and have a dozen of their homies on stage doing the same thing .  but even if he wrote the lyrics himself he would be far far away from a real lyricist

yeah, Still DRE is the only solo track I can think of where Dre is spitting consistently dope lyrics

good point, plus 1.. but I still feel like we've heard Dre over simple beats, like the unreleased track for "Smoke Weed", he does some superb story telling about his career and what he went through from NWA to Death Row.  So I don't think it's totally correct to say that Dre isn't a dope emcee unless he's rapping over banging production
