I was the same as you, the only difference was that I had this pre-ordered not expecting much, and was very very surprised. A solid album, and taking away the 2Pac biting he was known for, I enjoyed this album.

One of the best albums released in 2009, and one of the most solid albums of that year. He did say that the album was going to be one of those albums that you don't have to skip tracks. All the artists say that about their own albums, and how great they are, but this really was a solid album listenable from start to finish. Rare as hell to buy CD's like that today, that's why he's got my pre-order on "Remember My Name"

I agree with Mick, aside from his "2Pac controversy" "Witness Tha Realest" was a really good album. I was expected a bit more from it tho as I was waiting for this CD since his "Death Row days". He changed the tracklist left and right durning all those years to improve the sound, but sometimes NEW tracks don't equal BETTER tracks. "Do What It Do", "All Or Nothin" and "Sumthin Like a Pimp" could be replaced by better tracks such as "Hood Rich" etc.

With that being said, the album had some serious bangers on it.

I really hope Realest will wake up and start to release some more music. He should drop another mixtape before "Remember My Name" to get him some buzz going. He needs to start being more active, his vault of tracks is pretty big and he just needs to take advantage of it..

I agree that Sumthin' Like a Pimp & All or Nothin' could have been replaced, but Do What It Do is a banger.

Yeah, Do What It Do is one of the strongest tracks on the album. Realest's flow on that song is sick and the beat is tight. In my opinion, "All or Nothin" is the only bad song on the album. Everything else is worth listening to.

Witness tha Realest is definitely one of the best rap albums of the last 5 years. It's unfortunate that many people will have missed out on it because of a stupid perception about the originality of tha Realest. The nigga is dope, fuck the haters. I look forward to more music from him.

i don't remember much from this album except that it sounded very decent.

people hate on the realest but dude has always been a solid rapper. i understand that some may have been angered by Suge's strategy to use him as a 2pac ersatz but i've always thought he was a good rapper.

dude did quite a performance with this album though, managing to sell close to nothing with mainstreamish features like Fat Joe, Devin, Ray J, Crooked I LOL or Sean P, not to mention usual westcoast suspects like WC, Yuk, C-Bo etc.

The album didn't sell near what it should have, in all honesty.

In my honest opinion, I disagree with the filler tracks some of you in here are referring to. "Do What It Do" was one of the best songs on the album and I never felt that should have been replaced. I also really liked "All or Nothin'" as it was the return of Mel-Man to production and was very strong, killer hook.

This album could have done so much more, and I already know 80% of this forum won't even give it a chance. My suggestion to you is: listen to the songs that were posted in this thread and give it an honest, open-minded listen.

The hardest part about trying to sell this guy to the casual fan is not the music itself - it's getting them to open their mind and actually listen to the music. Most people write him off automatically and won't even listen to it - but anyone that I've gotten to actually give it a listen, was sold on the album's quality instantly. This album was heavily Aftermath influenced and Mike Lynn (A&R for Aftermath since day one) served as the A&R for this project. A lot of the beats are from Dre's ghost producers and the overall sound of the album just screams "high quality."

I haven't been around the studio in recent months so I can't give you guys any honest input as to what his next album sounds like. But I will say Realest has very high standards when it comes to his production - so high that on several occasions I've seen him turn down beats that I end up hearing on projects from bigger artists. It might be too late in his career to try to blow up at this point, he's doing the music out of love. It's his passion, it's his drive. If he can get a nice guest appearance on a big artist's album, it can help the casual listener check his stuff out as they won't be checking a Realest track, they'll simply be hearing him on one of their favorite artist's albums. But from my experience with working with this guy - it's VERY hard to try convincing people to listen to him that remember him from his past on Death Row, which is simply a shame.
