Might not have been a NWA & a Pac if there hasdn't been an Ice-T before NWA & Pac. Or else they'd have been doing regular rap instead of gangsta rap. That's saying how gigantic his too often underrated influence on the whole West Coast is. No matter how he turned out to be after "Cop Killer", he the one who did it. Although he's almost never given props for that, even by fellow rappers.

My faves from him must be the ones he did with DJ Aladdin (also a half of Low Profile). Hell!  A track like "Bitches 2" could easily have been on the "Straight Outta Compton" tracklist!

Ice-T feat Charlie Jam "Bitches 2"
This is one of the singles & videos from Ice-T's "OG Original Gangster" album.
Produced by DJ Aladdin, DJ SLJ & Ice-T.

Nah you're tripping. Anyone who knows anything knows Ice-T is the O.G. and even rock/metal fans give him props for Cop Killer.

I know he was at that time, in the 90's but you sure he still regarded as such these days? I'm afraid youngsters now only know him as Detective Tutuola (sorry if I misspell).

My point, he was doing regular rap, not gangsta rap. Not even to speak about Yella & Dre with WCWC...

i wouldnt consider him "talented" or anythin,

He was talented.
You have 2 consider the time when he was on top.
He was Dope, period.
Even if you listen 2 his albums nowadays. The early ones are still dope.
Plus he had a very funny and intelligent way of bringing a message.

That Intelligent way, now is very hard 2 find.
Today.. is what I call punchline rappers. They gather a whole lot of punchlines.. and write a rhyme around it.

The later Albums like; Album 6 and 7 deadly sins. Are not classics but they are descent albums.
You could listen 2 them and dont feel cheated.
His last album was str8 wack.

i disagree, Ice has never been "talented". he made a handful of classic songs, and had some great/funny punchlines - but as a rapper/performer/mc,, he was never considered to be "dope"
not even in his early days as a b-boy wit that electro shit, when he was pullin on Afrika Baambaattas skirt,, askin for his acceptance as a peer

Ice made his career, by goin against the grain wit controversial songs like "cop killer" n "6 in the mornin", n givin birth to gangstarap  - thats  where his mark stems from, not as a "dopeass rapper"

I have to admit, I completely respect the guy and I completely understand his position as a legend in the game. He influenced a lot of what we now call Modern hip-hop and in some ways he was the original bad guy of rap (along with NWA soon after). He changed a lot in the game.

But I really don't listen to his music at all. He has some classics in his collection and some great songs and I know his discography, but in terms of repeat plays his music has never really made me come back.

Totally agree. Ice is a legend, no doubt and needs to be respected. Totally sided with Ice after Soulaboys disrespected remarks. However lyrically there's many ahead of him, but Ice left his mark on hip hop!

One thing that I really like about Ice is when he gets interviewed, look back at old interviews, he has charisma and always was well spoken and got intellgent points across!

Ice-T is SO underrated. His delivery might not be up there with the greats but his style and charisma was on another level and still is. He was kickin down doors and pushin the boundaries in music with the likes of N.W.A, Public Enemy etc and speakin on real issues at the time. And for that reason alone he deserves props. True OG.

Classic Ice-T tracks:

99 problems
Colours
O.G
New Jack Hustler
That's How I'm Livin
Escape from the Killin Fields
You Played Yourself
The Hunted Child
Home Invasion
Straight Up Nigga
Bitches 2
Lifestyles of the Rich and Infamous
6' N' Tha Mornin
G Style

He's very talented IMO. his flow was impressive, that's talent right here. lyrically not so much but he was very decent. very well rounded IMO. he was not the most technical, that's for sure but he had presence, charisma, and wit, and that makes him a talented entertainer. I was listening to Home Invasion recently and it's still very bumpable in 2011.
