My "Classic" Westcoast Song Of The Week....
« on: February 09, 2003, 01:06:24 AM »
Well... I talked  about it yesterday and I will continue with it today

This week's  song comes from a south central rapper, by the name of Skee-Lo. We all remember his pop hit "I Wish" ... it hit the airwaves and soon  every short man felt important again, but his album was overlooked. The song "I wish" probably hit an audience that was getting ready for comedic raps, but instead the album gives the listener a better look at life in south central L.A. during the early and mid 1990's. Also with Deathrow's collapse in the mid 1990's, this album was probably heavily overlooked as  a strong westcoast album, but it is a very solid record with cuts for everyone and it does bring that great g-funk sound all westcoast heads will be familiar with.

The song I am giving you guys a listen to is called "crenshaw" ... the song basically gives listeners a trip to crenshaw blvd, a hot spot for a lot of  people in L.A. From low-riders to women, to weed, it's all here in this song. The song also talks about chicken at Rosco's (Axle's favorite hangout lol) and also about the homies down in Watts , compton and Long Beach.

Bumper to bumper people frontin Crenshaw fun
And do flossin on slossin cars parkin music bumpin
Nobody dumpin nobody startin nothin
We just kickin it and getting digits
On one time be givin tickets
But I'm straight with up to date tags on my plates
The boulevard is hot from spot to spot watch your block
All the homies be comin from Long Beach, Compton and Watts
This song is props and all the cops can do is watch
It's two 'o' clock am and we still at the parkin lot
Coverin freaks with the camera it's like the freak net in the Atlanta
Georgia, with more hoes than Santa told ya
West Coast will be havin more hoochies for ya I wanna know ya
That's the type of game that I'm spittin
Rollin up and down the strip steady dippin is how I'm livin
Ain't no fun if the homies can't come
Show ya ride we all packed in the bag at the Shaw on Sunday night

all in all, this song is for the goodtimes... nothing to deep here, but the sound is straight westcoast... enjoy this one, It's one of my favorite on the album... I can picture myself bumping this during the summer... class right here...

DOPE......dogg, you are really opening my ears to other shit in the music community.  you do more than just put out random names and say "oh, it's dope".  you put up songs and detail descriptions to go with it.  props.  I love this.  keep it up.

well it's not done yet... I'm tossing a bonus track at ya... it's actually the first track of the album. It's called Superman and it's about Skee Lo finding his lyrical talent. Check it out, you get more than just one dope track this week... it's probably the grimiest of the songs on the album
