i'm thinking the wire and breaking bad. game of thrones is pretty insanely enjoyable too. and a host of sci-fi stuff.

Yeah it probably will be Breaking Bad as the 1st half of the finale season is great ... which is not the case for the Wire ( or the Sopranos)..

Speaking of The Wire , "Luther" with Idris Elba ( Stringer Bell) is one underrated show ( not enough episodes though)

i dunno about this series of breaking bad so far. it's picking up a bit now but the first couple of episodes were a bit weird to me. the stuff with the magnets was outrageous and with the climax of season four being so great, i'm not sure it's gonna be possible to top that. the buildup through the whole of season four was just superb 8)

The magnet stuff was right on par with everything the show has always been. What I like about Breaking Bad is it stayed true to form this whole time and didn't drift away as the years went by. Like Tony Soprano in season 6 is very different from Tony in season 1, and not like Walt where you're dealing with a changing man, I mean the little things Tony did, the little things we all do, they don't go away between 45 and 50. Walt has a lot of his little things still in tact. He's acting as the same guy. And the complimentary characters in Sopranos really change.

The Wire has season 5 and that's all I need to disqualify it from the situation. It's like throwing a no hitter through 8 innings then letting up a grandslam in the 9th.

Breaking Bad

-This is Not Meth
-Battery Situation
-Magnets

All similar. As Shallow stated, it's been true to form. Season 5 has been absolutely amazing, it really sucks though that we have to wait until next summer to finish the series. I can easily see them topping Season 4 though, especially as how it's going. What I am curious to see is the jump the show will make eventually. It took a year to go from early in the season to season 5, and we're going to have to see a a full year in 9 episodes basically.

I remember an early interview the creator talking about the show and how the plan was to see how this man is going to change over the course of 50 to 60 episodes. I scoffed at the confidence that he thought it would last that long (I thought the show was too good to be well received, and AMC hadn't yet established itself as the 'we don't care about current ratings' network it has become (though it may be slipping in that department).

Anyway, I knew then that this guy already has the whole thing written out. And I think that's why it can be so consistent. Where as wit the other shows of it's calibre you get the idea that they weren't really looking past 1 or two seasons, or decided to change it along the way.

I loved The Wire but the first season was hard to get into. The last season was a little disappointing compared to the 2nd - 4th seasons.

Breaking Bad, on the other hand, has been solid all the way through. I can only think of a few episodes that were a little weak, but even those had a lot to do with setting up for something major.

At the end of the day, both shows are some of the best TV I've ever sawed.

The Shield is ahead for me but i liked the wire.

And currently i'd say Boardwalk Empire broadcast on hbo (starring "Omar" from the wire; season 3 begin in september ! ) is on the right tracks

The new season should be interesting since a lot of the dynamics have changed and a few characters from that show have.....how can I say this......disappeared :)
