Remember this was when Def Jam was signing a lot of our favorite West Coast artists.  They had Warren G, Twinz, Dove Shack, Jayo Felony.  Some of you all may have forgotten but they also had Tray Dee.   Tray Dee had a couple singles he recorded for Def Jam that ended up on soundtracks.  Both were certified bangers.  "Droppin Bombz" off of the classic Show soundtrack and then also "Way Too Crazy" that I think was on the Rush Hour soundtrack and produced by Daz.

With those two bangers he was definitely on his way to recorded a bangin' solo album, he was in his prime then and still had close ties with all the key players out West.  With the Def Jam machine behind him it's too bad this album never came out while Jayo Felony's album did (probably because of the success of "What You Gonna Do With It".

Anyway, I never heard what became of this project, just curious if anybody heard anything.

I would hope this would come out 1 day.  sometimes it "always" seems that the cream of the crop with good rappers (and producers) never get around to releasing their earlier material.  Whatever is left of it should come out even if it was half-assed *no wideawake*

Tray Deee was never signed to Def Jam. He was signed to Sony Music. I think Big C Style got him the deal.

I'll check my liner notes to the Show soundtrack again, but I thought it said he was signed to Def Jam.  Maybe it was Sony.. my bad

He was going to release an album on epic back in 1998, but it never came out. I remember hearing from some tray deee interview somewhere ages ago that epic cancelled the album, because they thought he couldnt sell enough numbers without snoop

sadly i don't blame them but they coulda easily released it with little expectations and just limited the amount of copies printed to like 10 thousand

promotion, distribution, networkin....all that shit cost money. they probably thought they'd lose money on a tray deee album. and i wont lie, he wasnt exactly marketable. but that was the golden era of west-coast hip-hop, anything snoop affiliated coulda dropped and went AT LEAST gold. i guess it was a risk they weren't willin 2 take.

can't see any tray deee album reaching gold status in 98 though, considering even a semi-household name such as Kurupt struggled to do so (i don't even know if he did).

all these peeps should have gone independent just like nate did. they would have recouped their money and satisfied the fans.
