i think when the west sound was dominant it increased how much east coast rappers talked about being gangstas and guns but cant say i recall many west sounding songs as far as production and style?

Yeah I love how The East Coast had the nerve to diss West Coast style but then ripped it off for their own albums. That's why I never took any of the earlier diss tracks against the west serious.

50 Cent

 ???

GRODT is very West Coast sounding. Not surprising considering Andre mixed the album.

for the record funk came from new jersey aka the parliament funkadelics

i know, but i was talking about HIPHOP ;)
so am i. if it originally came from here it's not a west coast sound. niggas like epmd was using the shit on they albums back in the late 80's before the west was.

There's not many. Besides what others have already posted like Masta Ace, EPMD, EPMD solo members, Biggie singles, Dana Dane, I'd say Daddy-O "You Can Be A Daddy, But Never Daddy-O" album from 1993. And a couple of singles I can think of are Fu-Schnickens "Breakdown" and "Breakdown (Remix)", and Da Youngstas "Hip Hop Ride", Almighty RSO "Revenge of Da Badd Boyz", Benzino "Boottee".

I remember this one. It was not recorded for Maverick just before Lydia Harris got a deal with the label ?

Anyway, it's the better answer I see for this topic ;)

There's a few one-off songs as well...

Like Run DMC did "Bounce" which has the whiny synth and squelchy bassline --

(Came out in '93 on the Beavis and Butthead Experience album)

i would say that the p-funk sound and midwestfunk-sound has the biggest influence on g-funk, but it ain't g-funk. some of the characteristics like the darker sound and the slower tempo is very original....for example blues is the root of r&b but that don't mean that r&b and blues is the same.
and epmd was also a big inluence, but their sound is no g-funk. even if they sampled zapp all over every record.
