This is the first part of a hour-long interview I was able to do with Spice 1 on November 3, 2012, after his performance in my hometown in Poland. I tried to discuss as many topics as I could and I must say, Spice 1 is one of the nicest, most down to earth dudes I've ever met in my life. Unlike the Snoop interview, I was well prepare this time - had a better camera a microphone and I wasen't so nervous, while speaking to another legend :)

Spice also did a little shoutout to the DubCNN community, cause I asked him about it and told him, that I will also send a copy of this interview to Nima, so he can post it on the main site and I wanted it to be upped at the same time as our version. Unfortunately, I've lost contact with Nima like a month ago and didn't got a word from him ever since. I couldn't wait any longer cause time flies any interviews get's outdated fast, but maybe he will find some time to put the version without polish subtitles on Dubcc's main page.

Anyway, like I said - this is the first part, where we talked about his "Home Street Home" album, relationship with Too Short, his memories of 2Pac, departure from Jive Records and that famous Biggie interview, where he ranked certain rappers and gave Spice a "0" :) I don't think it was discussed in other interviews and many here were wondering about that whole situation so there you have it :)

Hope you will enjoy it - Part 2 is coming out tomorrow and also containst plenty of good info about:

- Mac Dre
- E-A-Ski
- New West
- Dr. Dre
- Tha Realest

and many, many more...  :)

Great interview.  Spice 1 is def a legend and seems like a real down to earth dude.  It's crazy to think guys like Spice were going platinum back in the day...hip hop has changed a lot since those days.

u were almost guaranteed platinum on a major label back in those days and u had rappers like richie rich, jayo felony, ras kass, etc all droppin on majors...game has definitely changed a whole lot.

Spice never went platinum though... Amerikkka'z nightmare sold 900K, and he has the previous two albums gold as well. I see your point though, Jerome. I often think about it when I bump Spice 1, I'm like damn dude was one of the biggest westcoast act in the early 90's and people bumped in from coast to coast (you can hear his influence on non-westcoast rappers that are younger like Z-Ro for example). it's crazy to think that about Quik too, dudes were as big as 2pac when they first came out in 91-92.

A major label wasn't any guarantee for platinum success, even in the 90's. Spice had tremendous success thanks to classic singles like "welcome to the ghetto" or "murder show" but a host of legendary artists haven't had the same fate commercially. A lot of artists, from East to West, had major record deals and never went gold or platinum : South Central Cartel (Def Jam), Richie Rich (Def Jam), King T (Capitol/MCA), Mac Mall (Relativity), The Twinz (Def Jam), Jayo Felony (Def Jam), Kam (East West / Atlantic), Souls of Mischief (Jive), the list goes on. a lot of westcoast artists were signed in the wake of the G-Funk Era but never got the promotion they truly deserved. Also, artists/entrepreneurs that had a huge buzz in the 90's locally and ended signing distribution deals never went gold or platinum either. Young Black Brotha Records signed with Atlantic Records, they flopped hard (hence Mac Dre's diss of Khayree on "macstabber").there was a bidding war to sign JT The Bigga Figga after his "playaz n the game" album which sold like 100k independently, and he ended up on Priority with his label Get Low, never went gold or platinum either and he went back to the independent game. only E-40 managed to get his gold and platinum plaque with the same type of deals, and it was only for his projects (the click & solo albums), for the rest of the roster (celly cel, b-legit, the funk mobb, lil bruce, playaz tryna strive, the mossie), they didn't promote it properly and artists often blamed both 40 & Jive.

anyway thanks Mietek23, good interview and initiative. i'm glad Spice's favorite solo album is Amerikkkaz Nightmare lol, always been my favorite too lol.

Glad for you Mietek nice shit.

But on the real if the interview with Snoop is not gonna get released at least write it down. I want to know what he said about 213. Plus you touched other cool topics so drop the content man! Would be appreciated.

Look guys, I would like to write it down for y'all but I can't.

Last time I spoke with Nima, he said that he got some new guy, whos' editing all the videos and he'll touch the Snoop one. I let him handle it the way he wants, because both version - polish and english were supposed to be upped @ the same time and due to miscommunications between me and dudes in Poland, our version was up earlier..

I know the sound on it is pretty fucked up, (I remember trying to made the Hotel service turned out that fuckin' music) but you had to wait and see what will Nima do with the english version I've send him - I still hope he will upload it on the main site, but he must be hella busy now cause our communication has been always on point up until mid-December 2012.

So all I can do is ask you to strain your ears and try to listen to the Polish version :)
