similar ordering to the OP, just with Rhythm-al-ism and B&O switching positions.

so Rhythm-al-ism, Balance & Options, Safe & Sound as the top three, in that order. as for the rest of them, Book of David is definitely near the top of the pack 8) UTI is very good too, i like both of those more than Trauma.

No doubt! Good to see a lot of you believe B&O, Rhythm & S+S are the overall best. Gotta agree there's been plenty of times where I like Rhythm a little more than B&O.

I still got love for the whole discography...but there's a little separation from those 3 & the rest. UTI, W2F & TBOD are still hot too. My list goes:

1. Balance & Options
2. Rhythm~al~ism
3. Safe + Sound
4. Under Tha Influence
5. The Book Of David
6. Way 2 Fonky
7. Quik Is The Name
8. Trauma

good list, very similar to how i'd rank them all aside from a couple which would probably get swapped. the top two like i said, though B&O is amazing for it's length and consistency, i just feel like Rhythm-al-ism has the stronger standout, GOAT cuts. it's close though. quik is the name i'd put over way 2 fonky largely on the strength of tonite, which still holds up like crazy today, especially the remastered version found on da finale. like you said they are all great albums regardless, but those top three, coming back to back chronologically, are just on another level. trauma i've spoken about before and it's sparse production seems to get less and less interesting over time.

i don't think that means quik has fallen off in recent years though, on the contrary. get the best tracks from blaqkout and book of david on the same LP and you potentially have something that can fuck with the top 3. it's more a question of quik will ever want to make that album than if he can. he seems keen on doing a diverse range of sounds and stepping outside the box more and more. i'll remain in the group that wants to hear a Rhythm-al-ism 2 more than anything else 8)

Yeah, I gotta agree Rhythm~al~ism 2 would be hot! As far as you pointing out the consistancy to Balance & Options......no doubt it holds itself together. I'm only a bigger fan of Balance by a little bit over Rhythm though. So playing those back-to-back is a great listen.

Way 2 Fonky, still bumpin this dope CD, shit so underrated.

I know it isn't a long track, but "No Bullshit" is one of my favorites off Way 2 Fonky.

To me Safe + Sound is flawless, it's as close to perfect as Quik has ever been. It's hard for me to put his other albums in order since I like some just as much as other. I guess the order would go something like this.

1. Safe + Sound

2. Balance & Options / Rhythmalism

3. Quik Is The Name / The Book Of David

4. Way 2 Fonky / Trauma (with the Trauma mixtape tracks added in, don't know why he left them out) / Under The Influence

Safe + Sound is #1. One of the best displays of g funk from the era.

For a long time I used to consider Rhythm-al-ism #2 but recently Balance + Options has been growing on me. Change Da Game is probably a top 5 Quik track for me, combination of the beat and the lyrics.

"Somethin' 4 Tha Mood", off of "Safe + Sound", is one of the best drivin' tracks.

agree that song is smooth as fuck. Quik has been consisten with all his albums, i love all his albums.

I think B&O had many amazing tracks. I still get chills when I hear Mausberg's verse on "Well"

As a whole I thought Safe & Sound and Rhythmalism were both stronger than B&O though. B&O's skits/interludes were terrible to me, and I wasn't feeling some of the "filler" tracks.

I picked Safe & Sound as my favorite though. It has one of the hardest diss songs in the history of rap on it.

Second that, although for me Rhythm-Al-Ism is the best album IMO. Quik kept a positive tone throughout that whole record, which blended in perfect with the top-notch production. I would probably say that Trauma is his 2nd best effort in terms of beats, but the down-right hostile lyrics just makes it harder to listen to.

this is seriously one of the greatest forum posts i've read in quite some time.  i couldn't agree more that i would have a similar order, maybe swapping a couple towards the bottom.  and trauma does become less impressive the more you listen to it, especially when listening to the instrumental album version.  but make no mistake, like matty said, quik ain't lost it.  the bangers on blaqkout and bod are still mind blowing.  perhaps quik's choice of productions that make the final album don't resonate with his core base as much as it did in the mid to late nineties.  but who gives a fuck, the dude is still unfairly gifted and talented and he's still making the music he wants and that we appreciate over two decades later!

Safe and Sound...I remember the Source's injustice giving him only 4 mics, definitely deserved the classic rating, pretty flawless production and some of his best rapping
they gave it 3 mics.

1-Safe and sound
2-Way to fonky
3-Quik is the name
4-Rythalsim
All good albums hard to pick one over the other but safe and sound and way to fonky always seem to make it back into a regular rotation
