I think this is a problem a lot of veteran rappers have. Recycling old verses, using the same content over and over and not really developing as an artist.I wonder if this is a matter of them being too lazy to come up with content or them being too afraid to come out of their comfort zone that they've been in (and have been successful in) for so long.Like how many rappers have we seen go from rapping about sex, drugs and money to being a dad (or mom) and taking responsibilty?Come to think about it, I also wonder how much the rappers themselves believe they're the alter-ego they've created and claim to be on records? Like I'm sure no one believes that Delmar Arnaud is actually some hardcore gangsta, but his alter ego Daz Dillinger keeps saying that is on every record. Same with Kurupt. Ricardo Brown is not a gangsta, but Kurupt is in whatever world all these alter-egos live in.I'm starting to think a lot of these rappers have split personality disorders.
Honestly I can't check for these same guys we used to listen to. Who's really bumping some new Kurupt? Still waiting on Crooked I? Did he finally drop an album? Who wants to hear these guys rap about the hood and struggles anymore? These guys have to have real jobs, there's no way they're making a living off this shit. And shame on you all for buying this half hearted, less than mediocre garbage. It's not what it used to be. It's the exact same. That's what's wrong. It's the same shit, these guys have not evolved and it's old. The only reason we liked it is because it was the first time they said it. Too Short said it, about making 1000 songs and 15 albums. The only new guys worth checking are Kendrick and Dom Kennedy. I can't believe people are on here discussing a new Spice 1 album, or Rappin' 4-Tay. Really? Find some new, real music.
Man if you would be about to rap, what would you do? start rhymin bout cooking?
I wouldnt call it personality disorder, its completly normal that when you are with a girl you act diffrent than with your friends or with your family - same goes for rap - its a street music, you get into that vibe, and rappers just spit to that. Thats why eg. Drake aint shit and got nothing to do with rap, i still dont know why hip-hop sites are making news about him.
