Looks like the Yankees are going to lose Cano.

Considering that the Cubs got Mike Olt and CJ Edwards (two very good prospects) for half a season (a pretty bad second half at that) of Matt Garza, I'm confident the Yankees could've gotten something for Cano. At the very least one top 10 (in the organization) prospect and a couple of top 20/borderling top 10 guys thrown in.
Plus he would've been perfect for Texas if he had signed an extension. I mean the Rangers were going to lose even more members of their offense with the departures of David Murphy and possibly Nelson Cruz, adding an bat like Cano would've resolved a lot of issues for them. And yes I'm aware of the logjam they have with their middle infielders but Kinsler was going to move to the outfield eventually (it's only a matter of time) and the rumors of the Rangers going after Giancarlo Stanton by trading away Profar will never die and for all we know may one day happen.

If you're referring to the Yankees's chances of resigning Cano, yes they're pretty big. Especially since the Dodgers are out of it now and the chances of the Cubs, Mets and Tigers swooping in are practically none. The problem is that resigning Cano won't make the Yankees any better in 2014. Even if the Yankees splurged and bought the key free agents like Cano, McCann, Jimenez, Ellsbury etc... the reality is that the '14 Yankees would still be a terrible team that would be lucky if they didn't end up 4th in the AL East.
The Yankees need to stop feeding their fans false hope and just let the Core 4 era die and start putting the pieces into play for the new core. Although judging from how their Hughes-Joba-Kennedy experiment and the Banuelos-Betances-Brackman experiment where the Yankees actually tried developing their next core ended up in complete failure, they REALLY need to start putting energy into actually developing raw talent. They had a good draft this year and international pick-ups like Leonardo Molina are a step in the right direction. If all goes right, they should be in the majors by 2019.

The way the Yankees are talking, they seem to believe that he's going to go to the highest bidder and pretty much admit they doubt they're the highest bidder lol.
I'm hoping he just stays loyal to the pinstripes and takes what he's offered rather than run off to some random city for the contract.

The way the Yankees are talking, they seem to believe that he's going to go to the highest bidder and pretty much admit they doubt they're the highest bidder lol.
I'm hoping he just stays loyal to the pinstripes and takes what he's offered rather than run off to some random city for the contract.

I'd be shocked if Trout or Harper ended up going to FA. Unless they just don't want to be in Anaheim/DC those teams would be absolute fools to let talents like that go to the open market.

He'd be wise to take the money and run. Bernie Williams chose to be loyal and he got ripped off.
And for the record I have nothing for or against Cano personally. But I do want him to just go away and let the Yankees crumble so they can finally focus on rebuilding and coming back with full force later.

One of them will hit the market. Last I checked Harper was a Scott Boras client, Boras is notorious for persuading his better clients to go into free agency and get every last penny they can. And in Trout's case, the Angels might have so much money tied up with Albert Pujols and a bunch of other guys that they won't have any money left to resign Trout.

I'd only be surprised because they're both still on their rookie deals & it's smart to grab the $200 million dollar+ offers they'll get from their teams instead of waiting to seasons end & risk a freak accident injury.
