I know, but in today's world they're going to have to start doing so. More and more players are locking up their players before they reach free agency, resulting in the abysmal free agent class we have this year, this is no longer an age where the Yankees can just go buy Troy Tulowitzki to fill the void left by Derek Jeter or buy Joey Votto to cover for Mark Teixiera's injury. They're going to need inhouse talent. Their last dynasty was built from within after all (Jeter, Posada, Pettitte, Mo and Bernie) with some complemantary pieces around them.
That said, it's not like I want the Yankees to go 100% into prospects. Otherwise they'll end up like the Padres and Mariners where they have tons of promising talent that gets them nowhere.
Just put a little more energy into developing talent.

That's all there is to it, free agent classes are getting worse and worse, can't just go out and buy your team in the offseason anymore.

Yeah you really can't. But those teams in the 90's weren't even bought. A-Rod wasn't even bought, technically. Those teams were built like the teams of today, it's just now today teams are throwing 20 year old phenoms out there.
It was that whole Giambi/Matsui/Tex/Randy/CC/Burnett era that the Yankees really started buying players out the wazoo.
But teams aren't retarded. Nobody is going to give away two-three top prospects for Cano to just go to free agency when the season is over anyway; unless he agrees to an extension.

I wouldn't even say y'all are out of it. Do you really think anyone's going to give dude 300 million? He's obviously a great player, but it's not like he's putting up numbers like A-Rod in his prime or something.
