now I have a feeling that all these mainstream rappers will start doing songs with funk influence in them

im obviously feeling the direction of this, right up my street. will definitely keep bumping.

having said that, it lacks production polish and sounds like a bunch of beats snoop is rapping over. nothing wrong with that, but a step down from a lot of his normal material. and i like dam funks sound but even within his subgenre it lacks variety. i'm spoilt for choice with this type of music and never rated him very highly.

yeah dam funk is dope but he lacks something, in my opinion b bravo & xl middleton for example are both doing a better job at doing 80's inspired modern funk.

just bumping this new reggie b album 'DNA', another tokyo dawn dude, has production from b bravo on there. absolutely fire LP on the future funk vibe, makes this snoop effort sound kind of bad. still fuck wid it though.

thanks for the heads up, will check it

tbh i'm not surprised in the least to read mixed reviews about snoop's project. snoop's been lazy with his raps for too long and conceptually he doesn't put a lot of effort into what he does musically, and that dates to his dogghouse days. that's just snoop, he dabbles in something without taking it too far. it's like he's having fun like a kid has fun with toys but doesn't want to bother trying hard. it's like a celebrity who has access to professional equipment and exposure but doesn't get serious about what he does. can't blame him, i'd be havin fun in his position, it's hard to step out of your comfort zone when you're doing so well without giving a fuck.

this ain't 2004 no more, xl middleton's sound is much closer to midnight star's than it is to parliament's

Snoop needed a ghostwriter and that other dude needed a coproducer - then this would've been good. As it stands its a 34 minute song with minor beat switchups every 5/7 minutes.

Ouch.
