I'm far from an expert on that type of music, I just stumbled on a song I really like but I can't  find anything that sounds like it. Do you guys listen to that type of records at all? Funky soul mixed with a little bit of techno

That was one of my guilty pleasures as a kid lol. Never even knew any of the artist / titles cuz I wouldn't confess to it. I can only remember a few songs like "come on ride the train, two can ride it" and "wanna be my lover wanna be my lover" lol.
"House shoes & coffee: I know the paper gone come"

There's a huge difference between House and Euro Dance tho. But I know what you mean. That shit was the epitome of soulless, commercial crap but at times it was catchy as fuck lol.

Smooth house - Was what I went into and actually worked for a label that specialised in this type of music. It was soulful and mature and nothing cringing about it whatsoever

That KLF song 3am is seriously one of my all time favorite songs.

"Crazy" by Seal is classic too, particularly the extended version.

Cosign on that KLF track.
I prefer Killer over Crazy by Seal (Adamski).

been listening to a ton of funky house courtesy of future disco/bargrooves compilations lately. great stuff 8)

this genre is still going strong, if anything there's now an entire sub-category which is closer to its soul/funk roots.

classic  8) can't believe it's been close to 15 years  :'(

i love house music with funk/soul roots and electro house too. when you think about it, it's not that far off from 80's funk and even g-funk in some stances, a lot of similarities. there's a song on breakbot's last album which sounds mad house :

Thanks for the references Matty.

agreed that's why i'm loving a lot of the more recent 'funky house'. it's even broader and outlandish in its influences.
