this may will offend most quik fans (and i´m one)but i dont think that quik ist that much of a genius, the thing is, hip hop is a very simple art (prdocuing, ivolves no really instruments etc) quik may be a dope RAPprdocuer, but as a musician he is a 5/10if you listen to REAL music, u will know what i mean, and even in hip hop there are people who maybe are morge gifted when it comes to beats and instruments etc like ryan leslie or raphaeld saadiq..nowdays just because u can play a little instrument, a few accords on a piano/guitar doestn make u a genius, most qui fans are so impressed by the quik grooves, yeah for a hiphop artits, pretty mellew, if you listen to real jazz/blues, nothing specialso he is maybe DJ QUIK America'z Most Complete (RAP) Artist producer (maybe in the top 5)what you think..
So who do you consider a genius in the rap game and what do you consider REAL music, The Truth Hug?
i'd group quik/dre/timbaland/neptunes together as masters in the production game. they understand how sound-music work together above all else, where it becomes about energy, but with different nuances. transcendent of any individual genre. a lot of other people are either more beatmaker or more musician and you can hear it.

Saadiq is more seasoned than Quik, been doing it longer and has an incredible résumé. Let's Get Down is Quik's commercial peak but it's not Saadiq's.I wouldn't put Quik on par with Dre, Timbaland, The Neptunes or Teddy Riley. Quik is a niche producer, a wonderful producer for that matter, but I don't think he's really more than that (which is already more than most can claim), I love Quik but westcoast heads usually give him more credit than he's due cause he happens to play several instruments and is replete with anecdotes about how he is articulate and worked with the best, no way he's on Dre's, Timbaland's or The Neptunes' level as a producer (although I prefer him over all of them but i'm speaking from a broader perspective than my own taste), otherwise he would have been more sought after. Quik is uncompromising, and by definition a producer has to be, cause he knows what it takes to craft a hit, tell rappers where to punch, coach them, etc. the problem with Quik is that he gave too much freedoms to his collaborators and they would sometimes turn songs that had the potential to be perfect songs into boring song. that Did Y'all Feel That song is a striking example of that. Quik spits a perfect verse, like a really flawless verse, and the second rapper drops an insipid verse and Mausberg's verse doesn't fit the song at all. You said Saadiq stays inside a particular genre, well Quik too, pretty much.
But he is not the caliber as someone like Daz, and not even in the same league as Daz. Daz is a genius, not Quik.
