I definitely enjoy Compton but I agree that Dre's rapping in his older years sounds weird to me. His voice and flow sound so unnatural to me nowadays.

Most vocals on his produced tracks now don't sound the same.  Mostly sound like they are sitting on top of the music rather than within it.  It's like he used to use vocals as an instrument but not anymore

facts .. dre vocals used to blend in with the instruments where as on compton they sit on top of the beat. most modern hip-hop has that sound where the vocals seem way too prominent. dre was simply keeping up wit the times and made it sound crispy in his own way.

that “beat hugging the vocals” sound is not easy to achieve but that’s what we went for on RBX album .. that sound is where it’s at because you can turn it up loud and there won’t be any piercing whatsoever.

Usually as men age, their voices get deeper.  Dre's voice for some reason has become higher pitched, fast and a bit whiney.  His slower deeper voice and way of rapping from his death row days are gone.  And obviously it's an intentional shift for whatever reason.  Some people say he's mimicking Kendrick, other's say he's developed a high-pitched voice from other things he is partaking in his personal life, whatever the reason, i'm not a big fan of it.

his voice hasn’t changed in his every day life lol …. it’s the way he’s rapping that changed. his writers and reference tracks are coming in with a different sound.. he’s no longer using DOC, J-Flexx, RBX etc… this past decade, he’s been using artists like Kendrick, King Mez, EZ Mill and rappers who use that nasally, less fluid flow. pretty easy to figure out.

I definitely think the 2001 crew was SO much more talented than the Compton crew (Knoc, Hittman, Mel-Man etc. versus Dem Jointz, Justus, etc.).

His voice has also changed for the worse, don't fool yourself
Some of his current shit is written by a dude named Smitty, who wrote for him during his The Wash and Truth Hurts days, and you can hear how different he sounds now. Although he does sound better now than he did on Compton.

It's more about the recording of the vocals.   I remember seeing something about how he has artists recording vocals next to the mixing board instead of the booth now.   Maybe it's just me and my ears getting old but it just sounds different now to me.  Not just his vocals

his voice is the same if you listen to interviews

it’s cadence .. which affects the voice when rapping

Any one else notice the mastering from The Contract EP and even in the “official” singles that he released after that the Vocals on Diamond Lane with Nipsey the vocals are way higher than the instrumental like for a “Dre beat” not to come through or his “mixing” to be that off is weird to me

And the horns on the song with Ross being there for one version but not on the other leaves the beat and track a bit dry on the official single versus the collected E.P … seems weird they did that not sure if it was purpose or just a coincidence…

Love the songs but just make it less replay value cuz the drums and bass line are behind loud vocals …

Happy the project came out but Black Privcage and Fallin On are pretty balanced and bump near perfect while the other two are not good to turn up, and ETA is also oddly EQ’d especially when Busta comes in and ruins the flow
