Snoop has never been a lyrical genius.
Do you think 'Nuthin But a G Thang' is anything but simple rhymes?

With Snoop, it's all about the flow and vibe

On a side topic, does anyone else think that the intro of 'Another Part of Me' remind them of 'Dirty Diana' by Michael Jackson?

We are told this album is only occuring because of Doggystyle and the 30 reunion, correct?
Then why not incorporate samples from Doggystyle, make this an album that it truly should be. At this point we are basically getting 2 new artists named Snoop Dogg and Dr Dre!..

If you want Doggystyle go listen to Doggystyle ffs

Did you guys catch "the shiznit" referance in "thank you"? First verse... they also did many references to many snoop and dre classics trough whole song.

I want this to be included on the album and a music video please. Thats the shit we were expecting.

I agree. But wasn't Snoop supposed to be mature, instead same corny Snoop of past decade.

I was expecting a mature (❌) Snoop sounding flawless like usual under Dre (✔️) with a perfection sounding production Thriller level, so far (❌❌❌).

I get it… I really do… but can’t blame hardcore fans for wanting that Dre & Snoop magic we got with such classics!

I’m excited about the album again but when you set the bar at a high standard, you gotta expect the OG fans to feel a certain way when it switches up!

I never made mention of me wanting a Doggystyle 2. You can read what I put, Snoop and Dre mentioned reunion based off Doggystyle being 30 years.

For the people saying Dre went pop. DRE went that route the minute he signed Eminem.

Dre produced a pop band of ex-Mickey Mouse club members long before that, so you're wrong more than you were before you posted that comment.

Dude, Eminem was the breaking point. Having him and Dre dressed as Batman and Robin, he may have produced for pip acts before that but signing Eminem changed everything.

I would say Dre went pop with Snoop with 'Who Am I (What's my name)', especially with that chorus.
It was definitely a crossover pop song.

What's your definition of 'pop' then?

Dre actually said he went pop for Another Part of Me when setting up the record on Drink Champs.

This Missionary record is probably going to be quite successful. It has mass appeal and touches a number of different genres. It might just be the record that takes Snoop to the red carpet. I'm happy for them both. It's certainly not what I wanted or expected from them but there is no question that the record will be immaculately produced and sonically impeccable. As Effen said, the records are big, not niche. And today, Gangsta Rap has become niche. There just isn't the kind of audience for it that there once was. However, pioneers do exactly that - they pioneer. They dictate what's what and tell a story to people about who they are and where they come from with sound that is unique to that story; it's part of what being original is all about. Funk came from all parts of the country but the West made it their signature sound when rap emerged, with Dre being one of the primary architects.

That said, I really wanted a Funk record. I wanted to see how Dre could reintroduce Funk and what sorts of samples he would use. There are SO many countless Funk records that are absolutely incredible. The genre is an endless goldmine.

The title of this record suggests a continuity between it and Doggystyle, which I think is misleading to original fans - we have a right to feel that way because of how familiar we are with their work and the indigenous sound that defines the West. In my opinion, the record shouldn't have been named Missionary. That title (along with Joe Cool's art) should've been saved for a record that embodied the Funk sound they put on the map.  If anyone could bring it back, it's those two. Maybe we might get one before they hang it up. I won't hold my breath but it would've been nice.
