you probably never even listened to the album front to back

you think I'm hatin on Cube like I hate on the Bay -- just because I said once that I really only bump his singles. That's not hate, I just think his album cuts are over-rated, and his ability to carry a whole album is over-rated.  But the dude can obviously make bangers, and has been a part of classic groups and boosting a lot of other artists/groups songs

it's okay, Cube will get there eventually, at least he's trying and he's made some good effort over the years as a rapper

I swear from when it came out was the dayz I used to just hang out at the record store all day after school.  Blockbuster (Music store) would let you sit at a listening station and listen to albums.

So I thought, what the hell, "Rhymes like Weight" is a banger, and Ice Cube seems like a rapper who is giving it a good try, and so me being the nice guy that I am I gave the rest of the album a chance...

What did I find...

"Ask About Me" was a sick ass joint!  How would I know that if I had not listened to any of the album cuts?

The rest of the tracks---filler

emotional bias

you went into it thinking you'll "give it a try" and that you were "being nice" for checking a new cube album ... you weren't hyped for it, so you weren't guna like it regardless, because you're an energy driven dude, and your energy was likely low when u listened to it.

Nobody gonna mention Until We Rich feat Krayzie Bone?  It's radio friendly pop type song, but I loved it back in the day, still do.

yet another dope single from an album of filler from Cube

...yeah I said it.

I mean I know Cube is a legend and he's one of my childhood heroes as well.  I mean that "Today Was A Good Day" joint was running right alongside The Chronic summer of 93' when I was first becoming a hip-hop head, and of course my older brothers friends in the neighborhood would mention how Dre and Cube were basically from the same tree with NWA

...So Cube is right up there with everyone else.

And I'm not even claiming to have an objective opinion here.  Especially in regards to like his earlier work the guy was known for putting in work to produce quality albums and not just hot singles.  He's a true artist.

But the albums just didn't hit for me.  The singles definitely hit.

But take another West Coast artist like Xzibit for comparison.  Ice Cube is like a household name, Xzibit is like on the cusp of that but not the legend and icon that Cube is.  Yet; Xzibit I always thought Xzibit's album cuts were significantly better than Cubes.   That's why I have Xzibit in my top 5 and Cube can't even crack my top 10 or 20.  He's in my top 30 though

I agree with you in that Lethal Injection was the last full length Ice Cube album I enjoyed (Bootlegs and B Sides was good too, but not really an album).  His subsequent albums had good songs here and there, but I was not a fan of his Don Mega persona and he carried that into many of his future albums.

Cube's peak was already over by the time I really got into hip hop heavy so I understand what you mean

I would go back and listen to the his albums of course but it doesn't really hit the same as when you hear it in real time
