A long time ago I read that it was shelved due to The Source's review of the album. e.g. 3.5 mics out of 5.
Artists are not personally responsible for repaying their advance. The money is recouped from sales/royalties. If their record is shelved it is just a tax write off and the artist does not see a penny from any future release unless the advance is recouped or they are released from their contract.
Yeah so if that’s the case then what’s to stop labels from just signing and advancing dozens of acts if it’s just a tax write off anyway
