I've once heard about a really dope underground tape that has been released before he released his first solo album. Shit must have been tight...

He talks about them at the end of the Dollars and Sense track something like:

"I was the first nigga bangin on wax, check it out 86 underground tapes"

Or some shit like that. Damn, I would really like to get my hands on them just to see what the young Quik sounded like.

mtv:

This is the beef that never was supposed to happen. Back in the day, on one of the underground tapes Quik and his crew sold in the streets, he gave props to a bunch of Cali rappers, from N.W.A to King Tee. Unfortunately, MC Eiht and Compton's Most Wanted took it the wrong way and went after some payback.

Eiht threw the first official blow with "Def Wish," and Quik responded on "Let You Havit," saying, "And yeah, I said your monkey-ass name in my underground tape ... / We wasn't dissin'."

From there it just got ugly. Eiht went on to make three more sequels to "Def Wish," and today, Quik openly admits he regrets some of the things he said on his musical receipts, including "Dollars & Sense." The two have since squashed everything and even recorded together a year and a half ago. No word on when that tune will see daylight, though.

I'm willing to pay big $$ for these tapes. If someone has it on mp3 or whatever then holla.

They used to sell them at The Roadium in Gardena (ooo-oooooooooooooooo!) back in the 80s....it's one of those things where I kno many people in their late 20s who said they used to have em, but they either got lost, let somebody borrow it, or threw em away without thinkin.
I heard he used to have everybody from his crew on the tapes, and that he did some beats and he rapped to other people's beats on em. I think he just dubbed tapes like on those old maxwell tapes from player to recorder without anything advanced, and he wrote up all the packaging...I donno how true that is but if it is true, daam I bet it was still tite for bein homemade.
