Refill version is a lot better because it has joints like "Careful What You Wish For" and "My Darling" help a lot to make it more personal like his old joints

...but overall the album is aging well compared to what a letdown it was when it dropped

I'm bumping this on shuffle with the Refill version.. shit's bumping pretty well, never liked the album before, but now I'm finally getting what Eminem was trying to do with it.  I wondered if he was even serious when it came out

Holy shit this "Hell Breaks Loose" track is bananas!!!  How did it not make the o.g album, maybe it was recorded late?

true but I honestly didn't get where Eminem was coming from on the album and didn't know whether or not to take it seriously

...so I didn't really know how to take the album, and wasn't as open-minded as I might of been in the past because like you said, my mood was not open to it.

But that's why some albums age better than others, because we have expectations and want it to sound a certain way, and can't take it for what it is/was.  But now we've heard Revival and all his newer shit so to go back and listen to Relapse it sounds like Illmatic in comparison to today's rap.  After all, 2008 when it dropped, hip-hop was only a year or two away from baggy jeans

My bad there was supposed to be a question mark there. I was asking if you still think Recovery is better? I think Relapse is better

Yeah you and Sccit won me over to your side.   I like Relapse much more now and it deserves its cult classic status. It has definitely aged well.

…Though I will say the fact that I was listening to it on ITunes as Relapse/Refill edition and had it on shuffle helped a lot.  Because when you get personal and introspective tracks like “Careful What You Wish For” and “My Darling” in between horrorcore cuts like “3AM” it balances out the content.

It’s funny, Em has that dope line on the album where he raps

MMLP was Classic
Eminem show was fantastic
But Encore just didn’t have
The caliber to match it
Guess not enough times passed yet
In another 5 years
That shit will be Illmatic”

lol… that’s kind of what is happening here to Relapse.  It would be cool to have the album grow to this cult classic type status.  I also wonder if in another 10 years Revival will become some Cult Classic, lol, maybe just not enough time has passed yet.

I was thinking the same thing actually. Well not about Revival but the fact that we consider Encore and Relapse as part of the vintage Em run

revival is legitimately a piece of shit and will always remain that way

HighEyeCue

Relapse is the one Em album I go back and listen to frequently

my favorite track is between "Wide Awake" and "Beautiful"... 2 songs from very different sides of the spectrum lol
