90's hip-hop never really had the word "bro" as part of it's lexicon. So why did I start using it??
We had "homie", "dawg", "loc", "cuzzin" in West Coast hip-hop. In the white suburbs we had the word "man" and "dude". Any one of those words is better than "bro". I'd even rather say, "my guy", or make up my own phrase, or no phrase at all. This word crept into our vocabulary in the 2000's somehow, and I picked it up by accident. After seeing this video, I can never use it again. They got another version of it in the UK with "bruv". The word sounds lazy, obnoxious, and it has lost it's meaning. If you say "brother" it is somewhat endearing. If you shorten it to "bro" then it sounds horrible.
After this video I feel embarrassed that I ever used the word, hearing how bad and classless it can sound...
