I remember first seeing the "We Can Freak It" video late summer of '98...I thought it was a fairly big hit for Kurupt but I looked at his wiki and it only reached 89 on the R&B charts...that's criminally underrated for sure

In Kansas City, we had one station Hot 103.3 Jamz that played hip-hop, but mostly R&B.   They never aired "We Can Freak It" during their regular, local programming.

But there was an excellent, National show that they would air on Friday Nights.  It might have been two seperate shows.  Because I remember one show had a DJ and they would mix and scratch cuts, it could have been Stretch Armstrong.  Then they had a countdown show.  You really had to be lucky to catch it.   Kurupt "We Can Freak It" hit #1 on that National Show.

So... somehow it was #1 on the rap show, but didn't get played once on that "Urban Radio" (hip-hop and R&B).

So my guess is that chart you looked at was for "URBAN" radio, but there might have been a seperate chart for "Rap" radio where it ranked higher.

I know Billboard had a separate chart for rap singles but somehow whoever contributed to his wiki page didn't include that in the charts

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurupt_discography

but Fonky Fresh is kind of right also because it didn't cross over to the pop charts like a lot of the hip hop songs did in the 90s
