The Game is underrated and underappreciated
« on: July 26, 2026, 04:38:51 PM »
The Game is the closest to hip hop as a mainstream rapper, A student of the game who can appeal to old school and new

His beat selections on 300 bars and runnin should say enough

Boogie Down Productions — "Love's Gonna Get'cha"
Mobb Deep — "Shook Ones, Pt. II"
Dr. Dre — "Keep Their Heads Ringin'"
Capone-N-Noreaga — "T.O.N.Y."
MC Shan — "The Bridge"
Wu-Tang Clan — "M.E.T.H.O.D. Man"

whatup homie, welcome to the forum

the game always been a good rapper and true student of hip-hop

and his beat selection has also always been A1 .. first 2 albums are classix in my book

where he lacks is originality- he tends to borrow a lot from whatever rapper he's rapping with and it comes off as inauthentic .. which kind of goes hand in hand with his off the mic antics: a lot of suspect behavior and unnecessary cappin

the lebron of hip-hop in many ways

that said, his catalogue is underrated, no doubt

For Game to sell 600,000 first week and over double platinum in 2005 was remarkable because how do you sell that number when nearly everyone was downloading for free by that time??

Yet, Sccit is pretty much right on this, but I will also somewhat agree with the o.g post.  It does seem like Game sometimes gets forgotten.  He did break mainstream so the mainstream hasn't forgotten him; but among the dubcc forum he's not as highly regarded as other West Coast legends, and not even considered a legend on here.

Like, Game is more popular mainstream than artists like Kurupt or DJ Quik.  But Kurupt and Quik get way more love on the forum (and for good reason)

I feel Game was kind of riding on 50s coattails at that time though...he contributed a lot of the success of that album with writing the hooks etc.

also his bipolar ways off the mic turn a lot of people off to him and he doesn't really get the props maybe he does deserve because he is good at rapping, his tracks with Nas prove that

Yeah 50 was so huge in those years from 03' to 05' the G Unit era that Nas was quoted as saying was the last great era in rap and I agree.

As for record sales (not talking about talent) it's a bit like Dogg Pound riding Snoop's coattails to double platinum.  Because Snoop was as big as 50 was in mid 00's ten years earlier in the mid 90's

... but think of it this way... as talented as Loyd Banks and Young Buck were they couldn't ride 50's wave to the heights that Game did.  A lot of Games bipolar antics paid off for sustained success even after 50 and Dre

Thers no doubt that he has his own set of mental issues, but who can outrap him? He bars are well balanced and they land as they should, you have your lyrisist which takes a lot more brain power to digest but his bars arnt overly complicated yet not as basic as 50 cent

So im asking, who can go bar for bar with him?, The closest thing i can think of is Lloyd banks but even then, he can be a little all over the place

The game verses are structured and he walks you through the track  and gets from vs other rappers who bounce topic to topic  lets not forget how great of a story rapper he is
