lol come on man, don't be one of those guys.  He references Jr High.  In America, that's 6th, 7th, and 8th grade.  For the other one, the fact that the guy says 'she's too young right now' doesn't mean she's 18 or 19, especially when you consider Tha Twinz were that age during that album, and they are at the draft....doesn't make any sense.  Don't tell me for a minute you're trying to justify in your mind how this type of thinking is OK.

remember MC Ren's lines in "She Swallowed It"? ...not saying that it was right or wrong but no one batted an eyelash back then, different times...now of course with the Me Too movement and all of that it would never get released :ohwell:

he says "back in jr high school" which means she no longer in jr high ... could be in college or even a senior in high school (18)

not tryna justify anything .. like higheyecue said, it was different times .. plus, the pimp game always been notorious for dealin wit girls on the younger side (mainly in high school or fresh out)

i'm not advocating for any of that, just kinda weird seeing u up in arms over what's been known.. never took u as the cancel culture typa fella

Oh no doubt, that line by MC Ren is bad too.  Some of Dre's lines are bad too.  Sign of the times.  Not saying it wasn't more acceptable back then, because it was.  Still doesn't make it easy to listen to now that we're better as a society.

I remember I was at the mall music store, Sam Goody i believe, and I only had enough money for one cassette tape, Warren G or Coolio.  I picked Warren G and listened to that for months.  I think i made the right call.  I did eventually pick up It Takes a Thief as well, but I didn't like it as much as Regulate.

That ain't even a debate.  I've never heard anyone question which of those two albums was better.  So I assume you were using subtlety for comedic effect.

I did absolutely love the "I Remember" music video the Alkoholics in it - such a beautiful song — and no one I knew was wise enough to know Coolio had already been around in WC's Maad Circle.

Shout out to my best friend Adam that summer — we did everything together — from roller blade hockey in the street to death defying jumps of balconies, tennis, epic boxing matches — we even went fishing together of all things — his older brother made out with some neighborhood girl on the back deck — and was like that cool older brother in the neighborhoods st8 out of an 80's movie — that used to pick on us but we thought he was "cool" lol

You have to remember the times.  Fantastic Voyage was getting airplay, and Regulate was getting airplay.  That's all I had to go by as a teen when I had both cassettes in my hand trying to decide which one to buy.  Had no idea what any of the other songs on either album sounded like.  Regulate was popular at the time, and obviously its status only grew over time, but it wasn't the unequivocal hit that it is now.  And Fantastic Voyage was very catchy and a fun summertime party song.  Regulate was a more mellow smooth track.  It actually was a difficult decision at the time.  Obviously now it is an easy decision, but back then, not so much.

That all makes sense.. but got and read your post again... you wrote...

"I think I made the right call."

"I think" -- so you are still not sure that G Funk Era is better than It Takes a Thief?

Ah i see where you got sidetracked.  Nah, whenever I state an opinion, i say "I think i made the right choice".  Like in my mind, i made the right choice.  Someone may disagree with the opinion of which album is better, but they can't disagree that i think i made the right choice.  Not saying "I think" mean's i'm not sure if i made the right choice.  It's saying, "I think i made the right choice, you may disagree".  That's all.

Word..

Yeah, it's one of those situations where something can be misunderstood in text vs. voice/person when you can hear the tone and inflection

Yeah I got you completely now.  I could see a kid our age being at the record store and deciding between Coolio and Warren G in 94'...

...Coolio had a big breakout that summer.  Those cornrows and sunglasses really boosted his image, someone at the label might've done a little makeover on him, because in the Maad Circle Days you can go back and see the charisma was there--but he didn't have the look yet.

Coolio broke out big that summer and Coolio was one of the first cd's I ever bought in a store.  Except, I bought the single for "Fantastic Voyage".  Then, a friend of mine had the album and I later was able to dubb on cassette tape "I Remember".

Yeah, Coolio was all over MTV at the time.  Remember they had the summer jams where they'd have a bunch of college kids at a beach resort somewhere?  That Fantastic Voyage song was the soundtrack of MTV that summer.  I mean, Coolio did alright for himself, his next album had an even bigger hit.  His third album was nice too, then started drifting further down.  I'm a fan of GFunk Westcoast sound, so Warren G is always gonna be better in my eyes, but if someone wanted to make a case for saying they thought Coolio was overall bigger, I could see where they were coming from.  He had a lot of hits.

Agreed- It Takes a Thief is a classic album IMO.

And to answer the original question, Regulate is an incredible album, only surpassed by three DR albums

yeah exactly, MTV Beach House and Coolio's video at the beach with person after person coming out of the trunk to join the party is very vivid in my mind.  I even remember them interviewing him on the beach and they asked him if he knew Snoop, lol, and he drew in the sand something like "yeah, LBC is there" and then a line "and my hood was over there".  Snoop was #1 still in 94 even without having an album out he was still regarded as the #1 guy in rap.

Then; you are right, it was pretty remarkable that Coolio actually blew up even bigger the next summer.  And again, it was with a monster single "Gangstaz Paradise".  Huge crossover hit, white people in the suburbs are still singing it at Kaoroke parties at weddings.
