RIP to the best music ever
« on: June 27, 2003, 11:25:45 AM »
damn I wake up this morning, and read news that snoop wants to have puffy be executive producer of his next album.  Another thread says daz is retiring (doubtful).      E-40 has to do a collabos wit justin timberlake and Fabolous just to sell some records.  Snoop decides to go with the neptunes when he has the best producers in rap at his disposal.   DPG is all broken up now that kurupt is back at death row.  Death row ain't doin shit anymore, and is barely treading water.  Ice cube pretty much only does movies anymore.  Dre don't work with the west anymore.  I been waitin on E-A-Ski's album for like 5 years, and he still can't get a deal.  Anything put out by Pac gets remixed to hell and a shitty guest is thrown on.  The Bay Area who?  Sac town what?  There is rappers in San Diego, for real?  Warren won't be entirely producing 213.  Ever since 96 I have been hoping for a record that is on the same level as the rap from the 92-96 era.  Every year snoop comes wit a record I pray that it will be at least close to being on par wit doggystyle.  I always hope for records that I can listen to intro to outro, and that rarely ever happens nowadays.  Every rapper has an ego bigger than my balls, and they serve tons of bullshit in interviews.  Seems like all rappers care about nowadays is making as much money as possible, and they don't even give a fuck about the music.  Oh well, at least I got to live through the best era in rap as a teenager.  RIP to the best music I have ever heard.

;D Now that's some funny shit...

But I wouldn't say R.I.P. I'd say we in a slump. Hip-hop will never die.

Well...I donno where the West, or rap, is gonna go from here. But I am pretty sure that the West won't be as big as they were in 89-92 unless somebody or a few rappers come out with somethin comletely brand new. Gangsta rap had it's turn...even though it is still around in a way, we all know it will never be as big as it was. I think we may have heard the best that gangsta rap will ever get, but I also think, and hope, that eventually we take the game by storm with a completely different style and persona.

I totally feel ya AC  >:(

IMO these 3 albums could really bring the west back but they gotta be nearly FLAWLESS

Westside Connection - Terrorist Threats
213 Album
Dr. Dre - Detox

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
these 3 albums could really bring back some attention to the west coast but they gotta be on some classic westcoast shit

i just listen to all my old westcoast shit cause that shit will never ever be replaced, honestly the west coast will never be as strong as it was back then but that doesnt mean it cant be good

I always hope for records that I can listen to intro to outro, and that rarely ever happens nowadays.

sad but true...that only happens nowadays when you find or buy an older album which you missed or never heard before (for me albums like Mr. X, Prophets Of Rage, Mackadelics etc). the level and the quailty of music isnt the same anymore like back in the days.

Last year I had 4 albums that were playable all the way thru:
 WC
Devin
Baby S
NAS

I haven't found one this year, not even the homie Sly Boogy...

Come on now man? Since 96 you haven't heard anything on par to what used to be brought out by the west? I agree with the fact that nobody's checking for the west, and I do agree that Snoop is using the Neptunes to sell, but Eastcoast owns the market right now. Before Pac died, the Eastcoast couldn't get shit out. The west needs ONE individual to bring them back. Pac Dre and Snoop did it for the West, but who is it now? In terms of quality records, I can name at least 20...

Kurupt - Tha Streetz Iz A Mutha
DJ Quik - Rhythmalism
DJ Quik - Balance and Options
Dre - Chronic 2001
Snoop Dogg - No Limit Top Dogg
Snoop Dogg Presents Tha Eastsidaz
Bad Azz - Personal Business
C-Bo - Westcoast Mafia
C-Bo - Life as A Rider
C-Bo - Enemy of The State
Daz Dillinger - RAW
Daz Dillinger - RR&GB
The Luniz - Lunitik Muzik
DPG - Dillinger and Young Gotti

I mean the list goes on. Did any of those go platinum? Only a couple. If you're gonna say that the West isn't making noise without East influence, you're right. But if you're gonna say that the West isn't putting out good music, that's just wrong. The West's best don't sell and it's because we have a slump right now. I'm hoping Roscoe, Crooked I, Knocturnal, Slip Capone and a few others can bring it back, but there's gonna be one individual who's got everything right about him that's gonna bring it back and we haven't seen that yet.
