i think you're wrong when you say "all his beats sound the same". you can say this to the neptunes but not to rick rock.

but i also recognized on the new e-40 album that he used same instruments (espa. drums, snares, kicks) like on "grit and grind". but the tracks don't sound similar to each other.

for me rick rock is one of the best producer out now.
can't wait for some new shit. does anybody know on which album he produced next ?

Rick Rock is one of the best producers in the West, I especially like his work on the Spice 1 album "Immortalized"...

nope. Almost every beat this guy does sounds similar to the next one. its easy to distinguish if he did the beat. thats what i hate about is style. By the way, hes from alabama not cali.

Exactly - that's where I first really got into him.

I like him. I think he's dope, every producer has a signature. I can usually tell a beat by Premo & Quik.

Most hip-hop is now keyboard driven, because the majority of hip-hop workstations have loops and patches that enable somebody with marginal skills to put tracks together,...

Unfortunately, most hip-hop artists gravitated towards the path of least resistance by relying on these pre-set patches. As a result, electric guitar and real musicians became devalued, and a lot of hip-hop now sounds the same.

He's hit or miss, imo..
Average producer, but with a few bangers.
"Symphony in X major" shocked me.. I didn't know he could put it down like that.

yeah he's hit or miss, some of his beats are impressive, others are booty. the one that comes to mind being my favorite is that e-40 song behind gates even my boys from atlanta loved that beat.
