About the 3 Dr.Dre-beats on the new Obie Trice
« on: September 17, 2003, 12:10:17 AM »
08    Shit Hits The Fan feat Dr Dre
12    Look In My Eyes feat Nate Dogg
            15    Oh! feat Busta Rhymes

What yall think about them.. ??

#08 is a typical "Dre-beat", imo.. banging bass, pretty simple, but yet great..

#12 seems to be a new era of Dre-beat.. some instruments in there, I hear violins, unusual strings to be Dre..

#15 seems like a mix between the other 2.. using flutes or something.. classic Dre-bass.. btw, Bustas chorus is gold, could be a monster-hit..

WEll, i was not expecting much from Obie either, but WOW!  THis album is DOPE, and Dre kills it in my opinion.  I hadnt listened to Oh or Shit its the fan until yesterday, and i must say they are both incredible tracks.........Dre's rapping on Shit its the fan is better than anything e has dropped since 2001(besides the wash sdtrk) and all three beats are outstanding.

Here's what i think about them

Shit Hits The Fan - an obvious diss track, it has a hard bass....bass...clap...bass...bass....kick...clap type of bassline i guess you would call it that and i guess an oriental sounding "whistle".  i enjoyed dre's rhymes more than the others...but the beat is what stands out.  the thing i like the most about this one is the soft "ahhhh" sound when he hits the piano.

Look In My Eyes - what can i say about this one...production is very good...reminds me of a mix of the older eminem style and dre's newer orchestra sound.  lyrics are on point in this one...and a nate dogg hook doesnt hurt.

"Look In My Eyes,
same ways i love, i can hate
cause its a thin line
walk around with my chest out
Like i got down lies
never will get to ya strap
before i find mine
wonder what the future is like
Look In My Eyes (Look In My Eyes)
real g'z anticipate
they got to have mine
all the hoes shopping me out
say its about time
niggaz never open their mouth
cause they know my kind
tryin hard to figure me out
Look In My Eyes"

Oh - This one is all about the beat and the hook.  that "whistle" is crazy, piano loop is dope.  i like in the second verse how dre brings that sound in...it reminds me of Rap Game from the 8 mile soundtrack.  busta's hook is on point, very well done.  but i love the third verse the most...dre did something i wasnt expecting...he brought in a violin which brings a somber mood to the track.  like i said before, his orchestra sound has finally come together     amazing.... :o

(i might be a bit off on this one)

(rastafied)  ;)
"OHHHH
i have you yelling out when i bag the dirty dirty rifle
Ohhhhh
Too late for niggaz to get religious and start bringing their bible
OHHHH
See you can tell like a couple niggaz you being a dirty psycho
Ohhhhh
See you should make peace instead making people become a pyscho"

Dre did the Keys on "shit hits the fam" but he didn't make the melody.

After reading articles e.g. all the lawsuits etc etc I don't have any faith in Dr. Dre anymore. Wouldn't surprise me if he stole them from someone.

Ya, i heard they getting sued for Guilty conscience.  However, i got faith in Dre cuz he couldnt have "stolen" everything for the past 15 years, could he?  And surely these people he "steals" from (like that bullshit from the source with Neff-u and those others) are so dope and talented that thhey can make many more hits, right?

All three beats produced by Dre are fuckin' sick! They're also the best instrumentals on the album.

Shit Hits The Fan- Thought this song was wack as hell beat wise
Look In My Eyes - Haven't heard yet
Oh! - Really like this beat, IMO Dre hasn't dropped a beat this good since Let Me Blow Your Mind

Most hip-hop is now keyboard driven, because the majority of hip-hop workstations have loops and patches that enable somebody with marginal skills to put tracks together,...

Unfortunately, most hip-hop artists gravitated towards the path of least resistance by relying on these pre-set patches. As a result, electric guitar and real musicians became devalued, and a lot of hip-hop now sounds the same.

True. BUT...I think he has so much behind the scenes help over the years that he doesn't credit. Not just talking about the Source article. Daz has always maintained he had a huge hand in the Chronic. Look at all the tracks that he has had lawsuits on.

Plus he tends to use artists for his own benefit (2001 - Defari, King T, Hittman etc) He didn't want Eve originally, now she is big he wants her back...hmmm.

Holla back.
