I've changed my opinion a LOT on 2Pac in the last while
« on: October 12, 2003, 08:29:22 PM »
I used to think this cat was just wack, then I realized the reason I wasn't diggin him was because of the wierd-ass fans & the fact he's overrated as fuck. I mainly based the music on All Eyez as well, which I think is a weak album. I think he's overrated & all but I stil think he's a dope artist. I'm really into 2Pacalypse Now & Makaveli. Plus the new joint Runnin is crazy as hell. Anyone feel me when the dickriders ruin an artist?

Most hip-hop is now keyboard driven, because the majority of hip-hop workstations have loops and patches that enable somebody with marginal skills to put tracks together,...

Unfortunately, most hip-hop artists gravitated towards the path of least resistance by relying on these pre-set patches. As a result, electric guitar and real musicians became devalued, and a lot of hip-hop now sounds the same.

I'm far from a Paris dickrider. Peep my review of Unleashed. If he drops something wack I'll admit it.

This man was 10 when 'Pac died. You were too young to get the full affect of 'Pac when he was alive. Lets just say an alive 'Pac was just outright the greatest artist I ever had the plessure of hearing, wither it be interviews, new music, new sounds that he released like his Thug Life sound, or his more darker Me Against The Would Sound, or his depressing Makaveli sound. To hear 2Pac alive, and to hear him next to all the other artist that were out at the time was to know that 2Pac was always different, and always ahead of his time. I get annoyed with the dickriders too, because they never do the man justice. But 'Pac was called the GOAT for a reason, and all those people ride his dick for a reason. I don't see the same fan base for wack rappers, like a lot of wack hip-hop I hear in the mid-west, or even rappers of the past. 'Pac is the most iconic rapper for a reason.

I guess. I always try to back up every post I make with a valid point. People hate on Paris because of the title of his new album, what the fuck is that about? When I diss other rappers I try to give reasons. Not just that, but I am open minded. I listen to all new joints from everyone, including 50 Cent which may be a surprise to most of you. Despite how much I hate an artist they always deserve a chance.

hey man i was 11 and that shit hit me...pac had an effect on everyone...as far as what lincoln said...i always loved pac but i will agree that in my opinion all eyez on me was a weak album...it was more made strictly for the radio...it had some hot joints on it but it doesnt compare to makaveli or me against the world.

I dunno, I've always been cautious about Pac.  I sense hypocricy in myself a lot, and I did the same exact thing with my favorite bands (The Beatles, Oasis, Michael Jackson, The Doors).... but I'll still say it; I hate it when people get so involved in the music when they think it's something more than music.  I used to get all caught up in exactly what the lyrics to this beatles song meant, and how it affected the world, blah blah blah, but the truth is it's just music.  I'm starting to get more cynical, and I'm tired of musicians who are all caught up in 'trying to make a difference' with their music.  That's why I don't really like Pac.  He was extremely extremely talented, but I don't get into him much because he took himself so seriously.  I'm not saying anything's wrong with that, it's just not my cup of tea anymore.  I'd rather listen to music that has a more happy-go-lucky vibe to it now.

My favorite Tupac tracks, though, in fairness, are "Keep your head up" and "Unconditional Love".

while i agree with you to a point there is music that can have affects on people...havent you ever heard a song and it just changed your day entirely...whether it made it better or worse...i think it does have an affect.

^ Of course, that's what I said, music does affect people, but I think we make music out to be more than it is, we see things in it that just aren't there.  I see beauty in everything, but I feel silly about it afterwards,  I'm just saying we shouldn't put people like Pac up on pedastals, and think they're music is so inspiring, and all this, it's just me though, i'm growing tired of 'deep' music.

I saw a documentary on John Lennon once, and some guy jumped the fence @ his house and was camping out on his estate.  John had the guy brought to him, and asked him what was up, and the guy said that John's music had totally changed his life, and that he was such an inspiration to him, and he had really helped him through tough times, and that he was incredibly indebted to him.

John told him, "Man, I've never even MET you." and went on to say that the only reason he wrote music was for himself, or for his wife, at best, and that he didn't mean anything really deep by it, it was just a song, he said if he woke up and had a good shit, he'd write a song.  LOL It was kind of funny, because he's exactly right, we see so much in this stuff, and it's really nothing.  Just my opinion, though, like I said, I think pac took himself too seriously for my tastes.  Peace~

word. lincoln was 9 when pac died. i hate the fact that these little punk ass muthafuckas be dissing pac when they ain't even know how much he had an impact on hiphop. To say Pac was overrated is very ignorant. Maybe if you would listen to the mans lyrics you would understand. whats next you gonna say krs and the BBP are overrated as well?

pac is overrated...the dude is one of the greats along with biggie, rakim, run dmc, etc....but he is overrated...his lyrics werent anything different than...shit ok anybody out now sucks ass...but his lyrics arent any different than the other stuff out around his time. i love pacs music but he is overrated...as far as krs goes...the dude actually imo gets whats due...he has a lot of fans and he has a lot of people who arent really feelin him...nobody disrespects him (except nelly but hes the britney spears of rap anyway)...i dont really like krs' voice but the dudes a genius. but just cuz someone is young doesnt mean they dont know the affect pac had on rap...i was old enough and i was only 11...i can remember that day very very clearly...that shit was tough on everybody.
