WC has left DEF JAM !!!
« on: October 16, 2003, 02:25:56 PM »
WC was on power106 this morning promoting his DVD and he said he's no longer with Def Jam.  He said the only thing Def Jam made him was being Rich. He didn't say what label he is gonna sign to or if hes already signed he just said he was off Def Jam.  Def Jam might have droped him for lack of sales or he might have left on his own. WC did have a 2 album contract with them so i dunno what happen.

for a Westcoast artist it does but i would liked to see him stick by for at least one more album.

Good. They were simply the wrong label for him. They didn't mesh well.

Most hip-hop is now keyboard driven, because the majority of hip-hop workstations have loops and patches that enable somebody with marginal skills to put tracks together,...

Unfortunately, most hip-hop artists gravitated towards the path of least resistance by relying on these pre-set patches. As a result, electric guitar and real musicians became devalued, and a lot of hip-hop now sounds the same.

how could that be a good thing?  Def Jam is a good label for artist who make good music.  Im not knockin WC but his album was not very good.  I know if WC just steped his rap game and picked some better producers and those wack ones(jellyroll) he would have sold me.  The streets was a good singe but white folks aint tryin to hear some crip this crip that.

Whats up with Him going to Def JAM Anyway...And DAZ Going to So So Def, And Mack 10 With Cash Money??? WTF??? They gotta keep things local...they cant go to a label thats famous for making east coast artists stars and expect to be as big as they are....Its kinda like what Furious Said On "Boyz In The Hood" when he was talkin 2 those people in the neighborhood bout keepin everything black....

Well I'll say this....I donno if Def Jam purposely fucked him over, but they did somethin completely stupid....
I'll admit, even though they didn't promote his album, they had the nation playin the hell out of "The Streetz" and it was a coo song but nothin special to me. But it was stupid because like where I'm at in Florida, they played it on the radio, but not only did NOBODY here know when it was comin out, they didn't have it at ANY stores in the entire city. So the few people who woulda bought it from out here weren't gonna go lookin everywhere for it like me, and thas only because I'm from L.A. that I was tryin to find it that bad.

The reason that they are goin to Downsouth or Eastcoast labels is that there isnt any Westcoast Powerhouse label left....No Ruthless or Death Row (they are still around but are pratically dead) that had juice in the industry and could push their artists in a proper way.
