Westside Connection double standard..
« on: December 28, 2003, 10:25:01 PM »
1st, I gotta say Westside Connection is the best Westcoast release this year, and a dope ass album.

I found this pretty funny though:

Track 9, "So many rappers in love"
Disses soft rappers & r'n'b-MC's..
Obviously WSC wants the old gangsta-shit back, and I agree.

"What happened to the thugs, drugs, and G-hits ?"
"It's like this: Fuck a bitch, and that's the G-code"
"You used to be hardcore, what the fuck you looking hard for, nigga ?"

then on

Track 14, "Superstar"
The track itself is dope, like track 9, but suddenly the approach is reversed..
This track sends the opposite message than #9..

"I can't bump yo shit, if you never been shot"
"Before you bust a verse, go snatch a purse"
"You number one with a bullet, and you took it in the back, god damn that nigga can rap!"

Either WSC and especially Cube sounds unvoluntarily sarcastic on track 14, or someone ghostwrote for Cube on #14, lol...  ::)

i think its unvoluntarily sarcastic actually...but the only contradiction i did find...

so many rappers in love they say shit like "It's like this: Fuck a bitch, and that's the G-code"

then on another track (i cant remember which one) mack 10 is rappin to this chick about how he is kinda into her...he says something like "i told you i'd get you in a high speed chase on the first date"...like he's trying to impress her or some shit...and if the g-code is "fuck a bitch" i wouldnt be calling it the first date...that sounds like there will be more than just fuckin the bitch.

Also, one of the tracks off "Bang Or Ball," Mack 10 raps about how he bought cars and spent hella money on this chick who had some bomb pussy...But in the end, it's all music...I know first hand, Cube is a family man...PeACe

I wouldnt say that 9 and 14 are contradictory..."So Many Rappers in love" is self explanatory.  "Superstar" is saying you can be great on the mic but you arent acknowledged until you get shot up or killed.  "50 cent got shot 9 times can you believe he's still walking" and then you have people like Hillary Duff listening to him.  2Pac was respected when he was alive but also seen by the media as a threat and a rebel, now his poeticism (if thats a word) and how he was misunderstood is the media outlook now.

Word. For me track 14 is pure sarcasm. Sayin he wont listen to a rapper if he aint been shot but meaning the exact opposite...a rapper's skills cant be measured by how many shots he's taken, that the crap the media wants.

Yeah, track 14 is meant in a sarcastic way. Because some kids actually think like that "oh, he hasn't been shot? That ain't hard, fuck it, I ain't bumping his album"...it's stupid but it's the way it is.

Exactly. The song tells how fucked it is that you have to be a criminal or a victim of a crime to get some shine.

It's true though - violence & criminal acts really boost sales & get you attention and respect. Snoop's murder trial, Pac getting shot, 50 getting shot, B.I.G. getting shot, Eminem beating that guy with his gun... After those events they all had a bigger audience and a boost in sales.

people tolerate it and say its just music cause its the west side connection and they are a respected group, but if some other rapper would have done the exact same thing he woulda get dissed
