Who could be the best West Coast "commercial" rapper?
« on: January 05, 2004, 12:53:54 PM »
What rapper or rappers from the west coast do you think COULD be the biggest commercial rappers from the west? This doesn't mean who has had the most success, or is on top right now...but if exposed with the right promotion producers and all, would be best?

I think Bad Azz is the best for this role. His delivery and flow is damm near perfect, and for a gangsta rapper he has insight and hard ass multis. Not only that, but he RAPES beats that artists from other commercial made hits. He killed ADIDAC on the ADIDAS beat, and he ripped that "Play no games" Lil Jon beat waay better than anybody on the original did. He has hella personality as well.

I would say he may be in the top 10 best rappers overall on the west, but as far as commercial shit goes that could have dope azz club songs and even the touchin deep shit that has radio appeal, I think he'd be the best. To me, his ONLY drawback is his name, which will hurt his appeal a liil bit.

Yeah, I would say Crooked might be 2nd. But his flow and lyrics are a lil too complex for the commercial audience, and his real fans wouldn't want him to water down jus to make catchy shit. Bad Azz got the personality and can make somethin dope as hell but still catchy enough for females to sing.

Bad Azz definitely. Soopafly could be as well, because he's pretty funny with his raps. His beats would fit well too.

snoop always was and always will be the og "commercial WC rapper" - no one is going to pay attention to anyone like they did big snoop dogg....and bad azz, he's not gonna blow cuz snoop's been around so long. the time for a WC rapper to blow up is over, and snoop holds that crown.

tash kokane wc

iraq would just get annexed by iran

That would be a great solution.  If Iran and the majority of Iraqi's are pleased with it, then why shouldn't they do it?

The Game. His style is so generic that it will sell. You can hear that style in almost any young up and comer in NY/Philly, right now. They're all blowing up with it. Plus, he's riding with 50 and Dre, he's almost a sure fire bet to blow.

Bad Azz is tight, but damn ya'll are gassing him. He's above average, but not seeing a lot of emcees. I seriously doubt he'll ever blow, he doesn't have that little something in him.

Suga Free's style is too odd, he wouldn't blow up. Quik's time to blow is pretty much done. Yuk has a good chance, but he needs promotion. Yuk has an original style, but he makes music that is appealing to everyone. I think being on Rap-A-Lot Yuk will never blow. Virgin doesn't know how to promote a rapper.

IMO the best one can be Knoc-turn'al.....he's got more charisma than a lot of WC rappers, and it's scary the similarities between Snoop n Knoc

I ain't gassin him for nothin. The Game prolly will be the one to blow but I like Bad a lot better. Thas y the thread was about the rapper that COULD be the best, not who will.

As far as commercial style like I said, he is seein most mcees on the west. I am not sayin he's the best at all, but he is up there, and his flow lyrics style have that appeal. He's not just all about "I'll put a bullet in ya chest" and how many different ways he can do that. And he's not generic about anything he talks about. When he's talkin bout females he ain't just like "I fuck all the hoes and they love my dick" he will say clever and creative and funny shit. Then when he wants to touch people he'll do that in a real way.

What similarities would those be, other than how they look? I don't really like Knoc all that much, I think the beats he raps to and people he raps with save him 90% of the time.

Roscoe still has a chance.. Or Crooked I with the right promotion. Bad Azz has no charisma in the front of a camera he looks like a fool . Think about "we be putting it down" or "U aint Shit". He's a dope rapper but he dosent have the charisma to be a star. Somebody mentioned Tash, its kinda true, The Licks make good party tracks
