Hmm...
I'm black, I love Pac's music and hate 50's music.

What does that mean?

I'm not into the underground scene anymore and I haven't been for almost a decade. When I used to go to the underground shows or to open mics or battles and whatnot, all the white boys hated big time on anyone that sold more than a hundred thousand units. People like Ice Cube, Snoop, Dogg Pound, 2pac, etc weren't "real hip hop" according to them. It was the whole backpacker contingent. That attitude annoyed the hell out of me which soured me to the whole underground scene at the time.

This will sound very racist, but I don't care. I notice that mainly white people are fans of the more "hardcore" styled rappers. This board for example, the majority of the gangsta rap fans on here are white. Not saying the people here, but in general, most white people are trying to learn about the streets and street life through the music, since 9 out of 10 times they've never experienced it.

Yup, you're right.  They're rebelling against what they grew up in, because they feel they want to be an individual, and different from their parents and their family and everything they see around them.  Not so much that they hate what they are, it's just they want to be different, to be their own person, and not exactly like their dad, or whatever.  The extremely, very ironic thing, though, is that by doing this, all they do is act like every other white male who's thinking the same exact thing, and doing the same exact thing! It took me a while to realize I was doing this, then I just kind of relaxed and accepted who I was, and became an individual by being myself.  The only thing I rebel against now is rebellion.

that isnt necessarily true. not all white guys want to rebel against the life they know. i love the life i know and i prefer to stay that way. people act like if you arent poverty stricken you can't truely appreciate hip hop. thats possibly the dumbest thing i've ever heard. its all about the music. most of the time when people want to rebel against their parents and whatnot is when they end up wearing black, chains, spikes, tats, etc...

i wanna see a black dude rollin in a beat up ass truck bumpin some country man...that shit would be crazy.

Well well, let me introduce you to an enigma.

 http://www.charleypride.com/

(with Dolly Parton)

(With the Reagans)

(With Pres. Carter & Willie Nelson)

Charley Pride is one of the most successful country musicians of all time, and he's black, LOL.  You GOT to admire this guy, I mean, in the fuckin 50's he was recording, with his big ass black face on the cover of a COUNTRY album, and selling hundreds of thousands of copies.  Performed at the Grand Ol Opery, etc, etc. etc. Nothing but accolade after accolade, and the way he tells it, wasn't discriminated against (much) because of his color.  I'm sure he had incidents, but on the whole, people have always loved the guy.  He had a huge song you might have heard that went "You've got to... Kiss an Angel Good Mornin'" It's on his webpage.

Don't let anybody ever tell you that racism is an insurmountable hill.  This motherfucker got inducted into the country music hall of fame (the highest possible honor in Country), won grammies for country songs, is the only black Grand Ol Opery member, was the first black person to play there, etc. etc. etc. list goes on and on.  He's got like 40 #1 country hits.

country was huge back around that time though. nowadays you'll never hear a black dude listening to country and rarely ever rock (w/ the exception of the black dude from sugar ray, and a few other black rock artists)

I see your point, but I dont really know. I'm white and I'm into Pac but I aint feeling 50. I believe there's no relation between feeling Pac, feeling 50 or being white. You could be white and love em both, love one of them or hate em both. You could be black and hate em both, love one or love both.

I'm Asian, and everybody loves me. :)

:P And I used to like 50, but all of his songs sound the same to me these days because of his voice being on the TV or Radio every single day.

i gotta say that i'm white, and pac is my favorite. i think a lot of white people don't like pac or 50 cuz they don't like rap music in general. but anyone that seems to like rap, ANYONE seems to be into pac. and as for comparisons between 50 and pac, i don't think that 50 and pac should ever be mentioned in the same sentence. i think 50 is garbage....

its not that white people dont like 50 cent...its that anyone who enjoys good lyricism doesnt like 50 cent.

anyone who claims u can feel the emotions Ja Rule puts in his lyrics should never dare to speak on 'good lyricism'

No offence, but you can't say you don't like mainstream rap and love 'Pac. Tupac is a commercial rapper. He's been a commercial artist since before he died or even before 'All Eyez On Me' dropped. If I recall, 'Me Against the World' went to Number One in the American charts, as did 'All Eyez On Me' and the Makaveli album. Fair enough, he may be the only commercial rapper you like and some people may consider him 'undergound' because he's generally deeper and more in your face than most of the watered-down garbage heard on radio. However, If you're talking in sales and statistics than 'Pac is most definately mainstream. And I don't consider that a bad thing anyway - this is coming from a 2pac fan.
As for the fact that white people like gangsta rap because they want to experience street life - I'm not sure. I am white and certainly share a preference for 'gangsta rap', although I listen to a lot of hip-hop also, but I don't think that's the reason I like it. I simply like the quality of the music: the expression involved, the instrumentals used, and the obvious personality and charisma of gangsta rappers like Ice Cube, etc. Don't get me wrong though, I'm sure we could all say there is some wack gangsta rap out there. Basically I guess I just like rap music in general. Check this quote from Tupac about being labeled a 'gangsta rapper' (some of y'all may have seen it before - I grabbed it from the Tupac: Ressurrection book ;) )

'When did I ever say I was a gangsta rapper? Is Frank Sinatra a gansta singer? Is Steven Seagal a gansta actor? What is that? That's such a limited term. Marlon Brando ia not a gangsta actor, he's an actor. Axl Rose and them are not gangsta rock and rollers, they're rock and rollers. So I'm a rapper, this is what I do, I'm an artist. And I rap about the oppressed taking back their place. I rap about fighting back. To me, my lyrics and my verses are about struggling and overcoming, you know? Not gangstas. I don't rap about sitting up eating shrimp and shit. I rap about fighting back.' - Tupac Shakur

By the way, reading this thread has made me curious. This question is merely out of curiousity, but would I be right if I said the majority of this board's users are white like myself?

^i don't have a problem with the mainstream just i ain't feelin' none of that shit right now. being mainstream doesn't necessarily mean that u wack. Pac was mainstream but that's when the mainstream was dope. Now the mainstream is all bullshit...
