UP IN SMOKE II?
« on: January 24, 2004, 07:20:17 AM »
I was watching the DVD of 'Up In Smoke' the other day and it got me thinking about when Up In Smoke II is going to happen (if it ever does). Recently, people were saying Dre and company were in talks to make it happen but that's been going around for ages. Even on the DVD it says something about preparation's for next year's 'Up In Smoke II: Still Smokin', and Nate says something about taking it overseas every year, but come on its been four years now! Plus it's not like the main artists wouldn't have enough new tracks to perform since last time. Since UIS One Snoop's released 'Tha Last Meal' and 'Paid Tha Cost...', Em's released 'The Eminem Show', Xzibit released 'Restless' and 'Man VS Machine' and Cube released 'Terrorist Threats' with the Westside Connection. Not to mention the smaller names on the tour have released new records too. Example being Warren G who dropped 'Return of the Regulator' afterwards. Okay so the only new Dre we've has since has really been a handful of guest apperances, and the tracks off 'The Wash'. Since Dre was really the shot caller on that tour I guess 'Up In Smoke II' would really only be possible after 'Detox' is released - but how long could that be.

For the hell of it, who would be your dream list for the Up In Smoke II tour? Here's mine:

*Snoop Dogg (plus Doggystyle fam, such as Soopafly, Daz, E-white, RBX, etc.)
*Dr. Dre (accompanied by Aftermath artists like The Game, for example)
*Eminem (who would obviously roll with Obie, D12 and possibly 50 & G-Unit)
*Westside Connection
*Nate Dogg
*Warren G
*IV Life (unlikely, but would be an awesome West Coast addition of new, up and coming acts - maybe as support?)
*Tha Liks (why not? Appeared on Snoop's 'Puff Puff Pass' tour as the support)
*Xzibit (probably accompanied by Strong Arm Steady since he brought Krondon on the Anger Management tour)
*Tha Eastsidaz (dunno considering the apparent friction between Tray and Snoop...)

Well, that would probably be my line-up right now. Feel free to add your own if you want. You could add East Coast artists if you feel like it since Em isn't strictly West...

If they do another one, I'm thinking its most likely to happen after Dre drops Detox, and not before that date.

I think after Dre, Em and 50 drop their albums there will be a big Aftermath tour with them, G-Unit, Obie and D-12...

... can't see another Up In Smoke though... shit's just too fragmented these days...

I wouldn't care if they did the same fucking songs with the same people they did on the last tour. I seen the DVD and I'd give pretty much anything to see a show like that live. One can dream...

*Tha Liks (why not? Appeared on Snoop's 'Puff Puff Pass' tour as the support)

That reminds me of some shit... This is probably the only thing in my life that got affected by the 9/11 terrorist attack. Snoop was supposed to come & do a show in Helsinki, Finland with Tha Liks and Tha Eastsidaz as a part of the Puff Puff pass tour. Then the fuckers crashed in the towers and everybody was scared to board a fucking plane. So Snoop & the rest of the crew never flew over to Europe, and they didn't do the fucking show. Fuck fuckidy fuckfuckfuck. Would've been a first time for a West coast rapper to do a show in Finland, would've been the first time when an artist I wanted to see did a show in Finland.

I agree with Lord Funk. There's too much drama goin' on right now within the West to have another all-star West Coast lineup. However, I do believe they'll have a super Shady/G-Unit/Aftermath tour sometime in the next year or so. They'd have "GRODT", 50's new album, "Beg For Mercy", "Cheers", Maybe some solo shit from Yayo, Buck, and Banks, maybe The Game's album, "Eminem Show" and Em's new album, and a grip load of old shit and classics they could do. Not to mention guests like Xzibit, Snoop, etc.

Up In Smoke II will never happen. The egos are huge now. You'd have Dre, Snoop, Cube(with Dime and Dub), Em, 50. That's a lot of people who could headline their own tours, and have real swollen heads right now.

Yeah, I don't doubt a Shady/Aftermath/G-Unit tour happening sometime, but I have a feeling (maybe its just a hope) that when 'Detox' drops Dre would approve a second Up In Smoke series of concerts. If you watch all the footage on the DVD you just get the impression that there was no drama between anyone and everybody involved was having a ball. Okay so they may have edited out any possible arguments or boring film, but no-one can deny that the vibe from the concert (can't say I experienced it first hand, just through the DVD) seemed phenomonal. I really do wish that any tension between members of the original Up In Smoke tour (Snoop and Xzibit, for example) can be squashed and they can pull it off one more time for the fans. One thing's certain: it would be one hell of a show! :D

SGV and Lord Funk I do hear what you're saying. Nowadays with all the BS and drama between the artists involved it seems highly unlikely, but I still dream for the day of Up In Smoke II...

Yeah, I know but Xzibit's a great live performer and I think he would deserve a bigger part should there be a sequel  ;D

Well this is what could have happened.

Dr. Dre (Doing Songs off Detox)
Rakim (Doing Songs off Oh My God)
Ice Cube (Doing song off his Aftermath Album)

that would have been a hell of a show.

That's exactly what I was thinking.
I noticed that some of you don't believe in it anymore, but I don't really understand why... SGV: yeah, the egos are huge right now, but weren't they already huge at the time too?

I really hope this will happen and if it does, hopefully they'll take it overseas.
