New Nas Album Info
« on: April 04, 2004, 09:25:01 AM »
Got this from another board:

Quote
A few hours ago, Nas had a little phone interview with Angie Martinez on her show on Hot 97. i didnt hear it but i got it from another site
-He's in Miami right now, doing the finishing touches on his next album "Street's Disciple", which is gonna be a double disc. He said that he's looking to finish it this coming weekend.

-What he's speaking on in the album: didn't get too specific but said that, he's focusing on speaking on the consistency he's had throughout his career and somewhat celebrating the 13 years he's been in the game. He also said that "people are going to get a lot out of this". Although being enganged to Kelis, he said trying to stay away from all the love subjects on the album, but it tended to occasionally come out of him on the album because love is a very powerful thing according to him. He said he's got two "crazy" joints he did with Kelis for the album, of which one will be selected for the final cut of the CD.

-Says he's got BIG plans for when the album drops in New York City this summer. He said, keep in mind that it's dropping on July 6th, which is right around the same time as 4th of July weekend. So he said he's got some crazy stuff in store for the people of NYC to celebrate this new release and it's going to be "outrageous"

-He spoke a little more on his consistency, saying that he feels their's been no MC as consistent as him who's been in it for as long as he has. He briefly mentioned Jay-Z & LL Cool J as references to people he feel's are consistent, but not as consistent or haven't been doing it as long as he has. He said it out of respect though, which is cool.

No

man jay-z switches from hip hop to pop hop all the time...look at it this way

reasonable doubt - dope
vol 1 - dope
vol 2 - dope but very commercial
vol 3 - wack
dynasty - dope but again slightly commercial
blueprint - dope
blueprint 2 - wack
blueprint 2.1 - wtf
black album - dope

so in those 9 albums he's dropped...he's put out two dope but commericial albums, 2 horribly wack albums, and an album that had absolutely no reason for coming out besides the fact that it had 2 tracks the double disc didnt have....now heres nas

illmatic - dope
it was written - dope
i am - dope
nastradamus - kinda wack
stillmatic - dope
god's son - dope
the lost tapes - dope
from illmatic to stillmatic: the remixes - wack

there you see nas has had a ton of dope ass albums...one semi-wack album...and a pointless EP...it had some good remixes but i think it was just a way to make some more money.

jay-z puts out singles all the time like give it to me, hard knock life, change clothes, excuse me miss, bonnie & clyde, etc...

nas puts out shit like got urself a gun, made ya look, thugz mansion (acoustic), nas is like, street dreams, & one mic...

jay-z keeps it kinda poppy w/ pharelle & such while nas has his commercial hits which still keep it street...he keeps it the nas style everyone knows and loves...so in that i would say yes...nas is more consistent than jay-z

LMAO@You...Jay-Z is the most overrated rapper of all time.

Reasonable Doubt = Classic
Vol 1 = Dope
Vol 2 = Pretty Cool
Vol 3 = Garbage
Dynasty = Whack
Blueprint = Dope
Blueprint 2 = Garbage
Blueprint 2.1 = Garbage 2.1
Black Album = Dope

Jay-Z's rapping skills = Decent
Nas' rapping skills = Amazing

sums it up pretty well except i say jay's skills are pretty dope and vol. 3 was decent. but

Illmatic = definition of a classic
It Was Written = quite good
I Am... = aight
Nastradamus = wack
Stillmatic = dope
God's Son = not bad

ain't that consistent either...compared to gangstarr for example

No More Mr. Nice Guy = Good
Step In The Arena = Dope
Daily Operation = pretty tight too
Hard To Earn = Good
Moment Of Truth = Classic
The Ownerz = Dope

that's consistent

I think the only whack Nas album was "Nastradamus", and that's because of the problems they had releasing and redoing it...

Aight since this turned into a Jay-Z/Nas thread, might aswell drop my thoughs

Nas

Illmatic - My fav lp of all time
IWW - near perfect lyrically, some misteps in productions & concepts, near classic
IAM - dope all round, not on IWW level,
Nastramdamus - Subpar, not feeling most of the tracks, wack
Stillmatic - Classic (IMO), amazin comeback, some of his best rhymes, some weak beats
lost tapes - classic, compilation though, makes up for the iam/nastradamus fiasco
gods son - above iam, spiritually & conceptually dope, give him credit for droppin an lp after his moms death

Jigga

rd - classic
vol1 - near classic
vol2 - wack, a few good songs
vol3 - dope lyrically, but bad beats/hooks/guests
dynasty - some of his illest songs, but tons of crap ones
b1 - classic, some of the best beats in 2000+, amazing replay value
b2 - dope, toooooooooo many songs though
tba - lyrically classic, amazing production in some parts, subpar in others

Single wise nas's top ten vs. jiggas top ten

it aint hard to tell, the world is yours, one love, halftime, if i ruled the world, one mic, made you look, nas is like, hate me now, thugs mansion

dead presidents, cant knock the hustle, feelin it, streets is watching, where im from, hard knock life, big pimpin, izzo & encore

there verrrryy different vibes, but ima have to pick nas>jay
