Ive always looked at marriage as something created for the kids and of course for annoying women who think they need a fancy wedding or whatever.
Well so I wouldnt get how gays are supposed to get married, but that's no reason to forbid marriage.

i have no problem with longterm gay couples being given the same status of a married couple however i am against gay marriage as its a unity between a man and a women

I'm pretty much indifferent on the subject. Don't get me wrong it would bother me if in the future my son were to bring home his fiancee "Steve", but I wouldn't protest the notion of gay marriage. However a Cardinal I saw on TV made a good point. He said if the church allowed gay marriages they would be openning the door to incest. And after all if its not wrong to sexually be with a same sex partner then why would be wrong to be with your brother or sister. For this reason I don't think the church will allow it, and I don't blame them.

gay marriage has nothing to do with incest, incest is illegal by law and illegal by religion and there is no movement trying to legalise it. it just would never happen ina civilised society

Yet one could make very similar arguments defending incest as one would homo sexuality. I agree with neither, they make me cringe. But why is it worse to be with a family member than a same sex partner. The only real differences I see is there aren't a whole buch of Jerry Lee Lewis's out there to advocate it, and have parades promoting it. Bottom line if there was a mass number of citizens practising incest, it would become a serious debate in the political world.
