Vibe Magazine
« on: April 22, 2004, 01:08:23 AM »
I was checkin out the recent issue of Vibe (with Alicia Keys on the cover), and realized the amount of corporate involvement involved with rap and hip-hop today... Not that it wasn't already apparent. But, (if you have a copy of that issue), flip through it page by page. About 95% of the time, either the left or right page will be an advertisement for something... Shit, the first 10-15 pages are nothing but advertisements anyway. The only two consecutive pages of useful information I saw was in fact, the article on Alicia.

Since I've stopped reading the Sauce a long time ago, I have no clue as to what the magazine looks like today, but the last thing I remember about it is alot of ads and Made Men shit...

I just found that rather weird. Other than that, this topic really has no other purpose.
Some say that if you play a Microsoft CD backwards, it plays satanic messages. That's nothing... if you play it forwards, it installs Windows.

oh and by the way, I wasn't being racist, I was being prejudice.  I hate dumb people.  Dumb is not a race you fuckin moron.

That's American magazine & TV shows..
It's amazing how commercialized it is..

When they air TV-shows like e.g. Jay Leno show over here, duke says "We'll be right back" "Stay tuned" etc. like 15 times in the show, and then the camera fades out, etc.. so when Americans have 15 breaks in 1 show, the average European country have 1-2, or max 3 breaks..

What I guess must be the most annoying for Americans, is when they go to commercials, and when they return: "That's all for today, catch the show tomorrow, good night!!"

Doesn't that piss you off.. ?

^ It's not like that.  I dunno how they edit it for over there, but there definately aren't 15 breaks in a show.

If you've got a half hour show, it starts at like 10 or whatever, they'll take a break at about 10:08, for 2 minutes, then another one at 10:20 or so, then end the show at 10:28.  SOMETIMES, they'll go to a commercial at 10:27, come back at 10:29, and then start the next show immediately after the previous one finishes up (credits, etc.).

So usually, there are 3 breaks in a half hour.  Most half hour shows are actually 24 minutes long, not counting the 6 minutes of commercials during and after.  two 2 minute breaks, and 1 2 minute break afterwards.

A long show like Leno (hour long) will have a break at 10:08 or so, another break at 10:22 or so, a break at 10:35 or so, a break at 10:50, and then a break at 10:56, come back and finish up in a minute or two, then commercials afterwards.  The beginning and middle won't have many commercials but they do a lot towards the end of the show.

So the most commercial breaks you ever have are 6 an hour.

The way they do that is, they end the previous show at 10:59, and then with no commercials, start southpark at 11.  They play the opening song, then go to the commercial they would have gone to at the end of the last hour, that they didn't take.

Yeah, I exaggerated when I said 15 breaks..
So you basically have 6 breaks an hour, depending on the show..
The rule over here is 1 break every 30 minutes, so it's 2 an hour..

Means that you have 3 times as many breaks as us..
Each break here is usually 2-3 minutes commercials + 30 seconds selfpromoting their TV-shows.. 3 mins in total.

basically the only american programme I watch live is NBA Basketball. other shit I download - with the commercials cut already out of course. Aint no thing with more interrupting than NBA Basketball. The game takes like twice as long, if it's tight maybe even longer LoL than it would without any pause. Over here Soccer is the most common sport to watch, and it has only 15 minutes pause compared to 90 minutes game, only 10 of those 15 minutes are commercials.
Cause I don't care where I belong no more
What we share or not I will ignore
And I won't waste my time fitting in
Cause I don't think contrast is a sin
No, it's not a sin

Shiet, I think that the only show on TV right now that actually DOES have 15 breaks in it is the Chappelle show... I hate that crap.

But the Season I DVD fuckin kicks ass. Get it if you don't have it. (Although, I do agree that Season II is better than season one... I'll definately buy the SII DVD the day it comes out)...

So, if that's true, then how do they play Jay Leno?  Doesn't that screw your schedule all up?  You'd only have 52 minutes of T.V., including the commercials.  All the shows must start 8 minutes earlier every hour over there if they're from America.

It's 50-52 minutes TV, with a 3 minute commercial in the middle of the show, and then 3-4 minutes at the end of the show, + 1-2 minutes selfpromotion, 1 hour in all.

When you have commercials in the end of the show, it's easier to grab a bite, go to the toilet, etc.. you get a little longer, but a lot fewer breaks..

Buy three of them at the same time, you'll notice they're exactly the same.

What i'm saying is, it doesn't add up.  In America, the Leno show is actually only 48 minutes of television.  You're telling me in Sweden or wherever you are, they show 52 minutes of it.  That's impossible, therefore, they must have the same amount of commercials, at least during Leno, which you chastisized us for, that they do in America, or it would fuck up your programming schedule.
