well hopefully this will get snoop to snap out of this funk he's been in...until he starts working with westcoast artists and producers again...hes just contradicting himself  8) though what he does say makes a hella lot of sense and hopefully other west coast acts unite behind this...the west coast rap scene needs to do something and this could be it

Bein in my position, I can agree with what he says much more than a lot of you do. I am from L.A. but go to school in Florida, and what he says is the fuckin truth. In L.A., they barely even play west coast rappers. They play Dre and Snoop, and sometimes they'll play Sly Boogy or Conway and a few more tracks, but that's not shit. However, in Florida, they barely ever play anything new that is west coast, and the same goes for New York. In Florida, they play a lot of garbage shit on the radio, but even though it sucks, they play it because it's from Florida. L.A. is the opposite. Even if it is L.A. and it is dope, they won't play it because of the politics involved.

And as far as other coasts stealin from the west, hell yeah they do. It's funny as hell to me, seein people in Florida wearin Lakers jerseys, allll of em drivin old hooked up caprices monte carlos regals etc. etc., wearin khakis, and I swear to God, people in Florida wear chucks more than people in L.A. do, by a lot. But then they don't like west coast music!! They are all like "y'all fell of in 96, came back strong in 2000 and fell off again" and it doesn't matter how dope a song is, if it's west coast they won't like it if its not Dre or Snoop. And that's just for like regular people who are like 18-21 college age, I'm not talkin about the record companies. But on that level, it is pretty much the same. 95% of all rappers on other coasts show some obvious form of influence from west coast rap. I talked to Jay Capone a few weeks ago, and he was like "if it wasn't for the west coast, NY would still be makin up their own words on some -ba dop dop- shit and rappin about their first love. Now they all talkin about drugs and guns now" and that is 110% true. So even though I can see you sayin Snoop is a hypocrite for some of what he said, he's not lyin a bit at all.

If you ask me snoop needs to spend a little more time in tha funk.....G funk ;)
I dont like snoop on southern or east coast tracks.....his laid back flow doesnt compliment the harder faster percussion used on those kind of beats

Snoop's on some real shit there, there's a whole lot of shit out there ripped from the west. Clothing styles, cars, slang... It ain't "reigniting" any beef or anything like that, but I think it's cool of Snoop to come out and say this shit.

i can see why you frustrated n shit but you gotta be kidding man, that's some bullshit right there

street poetry and 'conscious rap' are from the east and have always been dominated by east artists

even gangsta rap was started by the east but considering the fact that the west made it big i see why someone might be saying it was 'started' by the west but let's not forget all the other topics that east cats started rapping about (political rap, ..)

so what, what snoop says.  talk is cheap, it matters what he does.  every westcoast rappers says what snoop said.  when I see him helping out the lil guys in the rap game, then I will believe it.  Like I said, there ain't gonna be one warren g beat on the 213 album.  and anyone who says snoop can't control that, has their head waaaaay up their ass.

word....the reason west coast aint gettin love is cause their own rappers aint reppin it, so fuck what snoop sayin.,
"One day Alice came to a fork in the road and saw a Cheshire cat in a tree. "Which road do I take?" she asked. "Where do you want to go?" was his response. "I don't know," Alice answered. "Then," said the cat, "it doesn't matter."

When he said it, he was pretty much joking but it is still true in a way. Yeah that's true, they had conscious rap, and of course they weren't only rappin about love and made up words, I know P.E. and even songs like the message were on some real shit. But what he meant, and what I used his quote for, is that when the west came with gangsta rap, and especially when we were runnin shit in 1994, the east coast as a whole seemed to change focus, and since then, it's got harder and harder for a rapper to blow up who wasn't talkin some kind of "thug" shit. Remember 1994 when Russell Simmons said "THEY are killin us right now!" and he came up with that horrorcore bullshit to "rival" gangsta rap? Since then, things haven't been the same. So yeah they run the conscious scene to a point, but overall, especially commercial artists, most of them have some sort of strong west coast influence.

no doubt they were influenced when the west was runnin shit at that time and everybody (commercial) has been tryin to act hard ever since then, I just wanted to make sure this ain't ending up in some senseless east diss shit, taking away all credit for serious lyricism from the coast that started hiphop

I can't comment on how much west coast shiat the east is bumpin since I don't live and never been there but seing the results (sucesswise), mtv n shit it's obvious the west ain't gettin enough love out there so i definatly agree on that point

it just doesn't bother me personally that much cause most of the shit I listen to won't get no airplay anyway, regardless of where it's from (I bump like 50% west, 40% east and 10% others) so I'll just bump my shit and be like fuck the radio/mtv and all 'em.. of course the rappers need support though so like I said I do agree

I'm shocked Snoop would say that because he's one of the few westcoast rapper's that gets major airplay and penders to the east.

I don't think what he said is gonna start another rap war but he did speak the truth. The east and south do steal a lot of shit from west.

I'm from Georgia and they never play any westcoast rap because all the fools down here would rather hear retarded shit from Bone Crusher, Lil Jon, Ying Yang Twins, T.I. and every other wack local group we got. I used to like 8Ball & MJG but they ain't shit anymoe plus they jumped on the wack ass Crunk bandwagon.

As for the eastcoast a lot of their artists aint' saying nothing but get airplay. I just don't like the fact the rappers that come out of New York automatically get respect in the rap game just because they from New York.

As for midwest the only people from there I like are Bone, Esham, The Dayton Family and MC Breed. Because I hate those St. Louis motherfuckers Nelly and Chingy.

In closing the west may not be that great anymore but their still better than the east and south.

I am definitely not taking anything away from the east or tryin to start a new arguement. The thing that is a problem to me, being that I am down south now and see how people are, is that people are brainwashed, which leads them to bein biased. If the radio here was playin as much west coast as they were in 96, even though we don't have as much heat, people would still respect us. And the thing is, we have more than enough music that is quality for them to play. But people are brainwashed by what's on radio, and if it's not on radio, they aren't eager to buy it or hear it, which is sad and prevents the west and upcoming artists from sellin how they should.

How could you honestly say some of this bullshit. Street Poetry and concious rap started from the east and have always been dominated by the east. So explain why your east coast street poets consistently steal from underground west coast artist. There are only a couple of those so called rappers who haven't ripped from Paris, Quinn, The Mac, and so on and so on.

Gangsta rap was started by the west period. Way back when ya'll were doing disco rap we had The Mac and DJ Cee talking bout real gangsta shit. Too $hort introduced ya'll to pimping and to be really real Mac Dre taught ya'll how to punk police.

East coast introduced rap that was brought over by Jamacians but West coast formed it to what it is today and still shapes and molds it. The east coast is all over southern dick right now but West coast rappers were the only ones that every used to give them respect. Now they trying to pump our game. It's cool though cause snoop just said what has been on a lot of peoples minds. The beef has been brewing for a while now. It's time the West took back over. Even against the east coast bias perputrated by the control of the media by the jews West will rise again and get it just due.

No more stealing our beats, our lyrics, our style, our slang, and our style.

bdp/krs, rakim, run-dmc, public enemy,.. these cats established serious lyricism, paris and them are dope but they didn't start shit

you act like gangsta rap was the first type of 'real' lyrics while it's actually nothing compared to street poetry and political rap.. it's dope, I love gangsta rap too but that's cause it's entertaining to listen to and can also be good when it's got a message or someting (mixed up with conscious rap)

oh and schoolly d started gangsta rap and he's east so what are you talkin about ?

and in my opinion you 'punk' the police better by giving arguments (for example krs' "sound of da police") instead of bragging about robbin banks and gettin locked up for it.. by doing that mac dre confirms that he deserves to be in jail, doesn't he..

as for everybody on the east stalin form the west underground, that's laughable. How do cats like mos def, gang starr, tribe called quest, kewli, cormega, the whole wu clan and the family, bis, epmd, redman, bumpy knuckles, jeru, slick rick, black moon,..... bite from the west?

(and why do you say "your east coast.." when I ain't even from the east and the westcoast hiphop is my favorite kind of hiphop?)
