Author Topic: East Coast Killa/ West Coast Killa- Most Underrated Hip-Hop track ever!!!!!!  (Read 604 times)

This song was released at the hieght of all the East Coast/ West Coast drama, right around the time of 2pac's death, and right before both coasts started doing records with eachother.  This was a landmark record.  It should have it's place in the history of hip-hop and should have defined that post-2pac era.  Instead, it came and went virtually unnoticed.

Have ya'll heard the lyrics to this track?  It's sick!  Did ya'll check Nas out, "When I bomb like Sadaam/ The world feels the wrath of Khan/ All black on/ In this modern day Babylon!"---That is so ill!!!!  For those that don't know the Khan's were a dynasty that laid destruction all throughout the Muslim and Christian world during the middle ages, (all the way to "Babylon", (Iraq)) before the later generations of the Khan empire left Hinduism for Islam and thus propelled Islam to being the dominant political worldview of the Eastern World.

Anyway, aside from the brief history lesson, every MC on this track kills it.  B-Real, RBX, KRS-1.. THe beat is one of the illest hip-hop beats ever... and the video was great theatre...

Why I say underrated is because I only saw the video to this song once, and the song was never even played on the radio.  Doesn't make sense.

Dre took an upright stance against violence in hip-hop in 1996.  Now people want Dre to do positive records and he always says, "I tried that with Aftermath Presents, and it flopped."--  It's a shame.

That's definitely a tight track, not only the music, but the historical move it was, as you said. But I never saw the video :'(

Agreed.

Most hip-hop is now keyboard driven, because the majority of hip-hop workstations have loops and patches that enable somebody with marginal skills to put tracks together,...

Unfortunately, most hip-hop artists gravitated towards the path of least resistance by relying on these pre-set patches. As a result, electric guitar and real musicians became devalued, and a lot of hip-hop now sounds the same.
