bpg's post made me think about how i've managed to stay on track for 4/5 years straight without veering off to other forms of music.

u cant stay in the same artist and area of a genre all the time... i switch around... i'll have a dre phase, a quik phase... a dpg phase... e-a-ski phase... whatever... all kinds sometimes just dwell on random stuff till summat comes up.

on straying from west coast shit well... i'll check out 'other coast' stuff too.. i listen to a lot of Pete Rock, Gang Starr, Nas and Biggie but i won't really bother checkin shit out too much if i dont like the look or sound of what i hear... e.g. jay-z... eww

like this at the moment... i'm bumping Self Scientific, Del, Heiro, people under the stairs  (and buying more hehe)  in case ya dont know... its all west coast shit... just not ya gangsta gangsta shiz... gotta find more like it... suggestions?

i will listen to other stuff.. i listen to my fair share of other music.. like indie rock and stuff from my room mate at work.. so i dont need to explore there coz i hear it all without even wanting to. My homies a DJ, he plays Jungle and Nu Skool Breakz, he plays every other week in clubs here. I'm always there whether it be in the club, or out buying tunes. So I know those scenes too.

i just use the 3 cd method in my 3 cd stereo


i buy 2  new cd's from 2 different genres EX. David Bowie then something like Pantera....2 cd's  i'm not familiar with  then one familiar cd that keeps me grounded i listen to the david  bowie one all the way through then the , familiar one (let's say efil4zaggin) then after that the Pantera one  then the familiar one again just keep balance that's what i do

i never listened only to westcoast rap...i bump alot of trance, house, reaggee, metal and so on too...everything i like to hear.

I own more westcoast material than anything else but I love all hip-hop, from every coast. It's just my major faves happen to come from the west and I do enjoy that whole sound the most, it doesn't necesserily have to be gangsta rap though, I find as i've gotten older i've become more interested in more concious types of hip-hop. I'm also a huge fan of RnB/Soul, but I don't really buy music from any other genre, simply 'cos I know they will be a waste of money because there's so much going on in hip-hop and RnB that I never get tired and never have felt the need to stray.

It's the diversity of West Coast Hip Hop that keeps me from getting tired of it, from the gangsta shit to the underground artists, it helps to keep things fresh.
