Ice CUbe album & movie news from MTV.com
« on: October 12, 2004, 10:29:50 AM »
Basically, it says he's still going to do an album, but has pushed it back 'cause he's been busy doing the new XXX movie. Would be cool to hear Cube on record again if you ask me.

Quote
PLAYA VISTA, California — Shooting the $118 million "XXX: State of the Union" has been a different sort of movie experience for Ice Cube.

"This movie's taking up a lot of time," the rapper said during a break at a

soundstage last week.

Between training for the role and shooting all summer in Baltimore, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., Cube has had little opportunity to work at his other job. An album planned for late '04 is now looking like a fall 2005 release (see "Ice Cube Ready To Work On Solo LP, Still In Talks With Dre").

In the meantime, Cube has found the time to do one track and hopes to do another before his "XXX" sequel hits theaters.

"I did a single with Lil Jon. He from the dirty dirty, so it's gotta be gutter. He flew out here and we put it down. I think he's doin' a rock version of it. It's called 'The Real N---a Roll Call,' so we had to do it right."

The song, which has been called "Roll Call" on mixtapes, will be featured on Jon's Crunk Juice, due November 16 (see "Lil Jon Mixing Up A Potent New Batch Of Crunk Juice"). Cube and Jon are also talking about teaming to do a song for the "XXX: State of the Union" soundtrack.

"I want something hard," Cube said. "So we been kinda putting our brains together trying to come up with it."

But while Cube's been hitting it off with Jon, talks regarding teaming up with Dr. Dre have fizzled.

"I don't know if that situation is gonna work out, but who knows," said Cube, who was poised to record with Dre and sign to the producer's Aftermath imprint (see "Dr. Dre To Produce Next Ice Cube Record"). "Dre got real busy last year, and the year before that he dropped 50. So I'm doing my thing, he doing his. I'd love to [work with] him."

On the movie front, Cube can next be seen alongside Jay Mohr and Nia Long in "Are We There Yet?," opening January 28. "I play a bachelor who don't like kids, [and I'm] trying to get with their mother, and of course they don't like me," Cube said. "So we kind of meet in the middle and by the end of the day we're at each other's throats."

"XXX: State of the Union" follows a few months later, on May 13.

Cube should hang up the mic. He's not gangsta anymore...so unless he changes his content he should forget it.

Peace.

I agree. Cube is only ruining his legacy by trying to hold on. The Westside Connection album was horrible. The Peace disk was horrible. The War disk was mediocre. He just doesn't have it in him anymore.

IMO, he's by far the best rapper considering longevity.  Look at all the people who are still around from that day, and he's a hell of a lot better now than them.

Ice Cube...damn.

He aint been hard since Death Certificate, since the days he was working with Pooh and Jinx and some real fucking producers. His shit hit and it hit hard. He went Hollywood, totally dissed JD from the Lench Mob, totally dissed his gangsta styles by coming out with his club shit. WSC was ok, it was no Lench Mob-Guerillas in da Mist though. If you have never heard that album COP THAT SHIT! That shit is OG West Coast Classic Material.

You want to talk about Longevity, look at Cubes cousing from the Bay. DEL. Del has stayed hard and consitent for years in the game and still puts out dope shit with Hiero without going Pop.
Cube, with all due respect, hang it up. Stay Hollywood and make them chips. It probably pays better than anything you could make from rap now anyways. Just look at the sales from that last weakass effort from WSC. There's a million new cats rappin now that sound better and still some Vets holdin it down that haven't lost it. Nuff respect to Quik, Too Short, Dre, Ren, KRS One, Del and Hiero crew, The Liks etc...
