Is Eminem growing as an artist? (Not just another Encore thread)
« on: November 07, 2004, 05:06:03 PM »
Ok after listening to Encore what do yall think?

I gotta say no. Same ol shiet every album. A joke song for a single, on song recorded just for contraversy, one song about his mom, a song about Kim, and a song dedicated to Hailie. But actually this album is a step down because almost all of the songs either had him doing that annoying accent rap, singing, or just talking.

I loved The Eminem Show because I felt he grew on that one. He stopped with all that childish shiet and just focused on spittin lyrics. And every song he did after that was nice (ex: "Lose Yourself", "Invasion 1, 2, 3","Patiently Waiting", "Go 2 Sleep", "911". etc). Im hella disapointed that he dropped this garbage after all those good tracks. Eminem is one of the artist that I can usually pick up without havin to hear it but im glad I didnt run out & waiste my money on this.

he wasnt talking or doing the annoying accent on almost every song....in fact the only song with an accent was ass like that and its only because he was imitating triumph the insult comic dog. he sings in like 4 or 5 tracks yes....but he did that on the last album too.

as far as always putting out a poppy single...yeah i agree...its lame. but as i remember the eminem show did not have a song for kim. and the mmlp didnt have a song for hailie. he talks about them in it but do you really expect him not to....they are probably a good 60% of his publicized life. you cant say he always has one song recorded just for controversy....eminem's entire albums are always controversial....personally most of the tracks you named as "nice" were not that good....lose yourself was average. patiently waiting was good but he only had 1 verse. go 2 sleep wasnt that cool...i personally dont want to hear a song where the majority of it is "go to sleep bitch die motherfucker die"....kinda lame if you ask me. and 911...lol...lame.

what do you mean he stopped the chilidish shit on TES....without me, drips, business, my dads gone crazy, say what you say....all childish shit....still good songs (except drips...horrible). he has his share of serious/childish on ever album....

This is my my third fav album from him..MMLP -> SSLP -> Encore -> Eminem Show

The dude hasn't changed at all..he's done the same thing for every album...maybe TES was mroe serious...but MMLP was more angrier...but i see the same types of songs on all of them.

listen a lil closer

I dont care what anyone says, "Mosh" was recorded with the intention of causin controversy which equals record sells. Alll those songs were fire, especially 911

wrong, besides "Without Me" and "My Dad's Gone Crazy" the album was childish shiet. by childish shiet I mean whole songs that aint talkin about shiet but talkin about gays, dead celeberties, or making fun of serious issues (columbine).

but its all opinions tho. in my opinon he aint growin as an artist, and its lame to me that cats is buyin his albums to hear the same ol thing.

Well, it may be insane to you, but not to me, cause THATS NOT WHY I STARTED TO LISTEN TO EMINEM in the first place.  I remember the Slim Shady LP and he was talkin about silly as fuckin shit and it was actually good! Brain Damage, Guilty Conscience my fault etc. I mean, he was different from the other rappers around at the time.

If he doesn't make another Soldier or Sing for the moment, I would'nt care..becuase I can get by with songs like Drug Ballad, Kill you, I just dont give a fuck, role model or even songs like Puke.

Eminem is more constant on Encore than TES...a lot more good tracks on here than TES. Well, that's what I believe  ;D

I think his main problem is he doesnt have any set style, his albums are sloppy meldings of different style (after MMLP of course).  If he would have stayed angry and outrageous like SSLP then hed be a respectable artist bu he tries too many different things at once and fails horribly at least thats my thought, I havent listened to ENcore and I dont plan on it so take what I say with a grain of salt.

to me, this album, with the exception of a few tracks, sounds like he was just fucking about in the studio...it doesnt sound like he was making much of an effort lyrically, and he says it himself in one of the songs...imo its a definite drop in quality from The Eminem Show... 8)

Well on Eminem Show, in my opinion, he had grown a lot from his previous efforts. He maintained that level on the 8 Mile OST - he seemed to have become the artist Dre wanted him to originally become. But on Encore he certainly went down a peg or two... And I say that after having only heard 5 tracks from the album, but it seems everybody feels the same way. There's a few tracks that show that he hasn't lost his touch or talent anywhere - he can still write and spit dope rhymes with an excellent flow. But the rest of the shit is garbage. I dunno why, maybe he got lazy on this one, maybe he felt he needed more comedy tracks. (It was said Dre wanted him to go back to the Slim Shady persona more, but that in my opinion only meant a change in subject matter, not showing no effort in your rhymes and doing stupid accents all the time. I'm actually kinda surprised Dre let this shit go through with him being the exec. producer and all.)

So yeah, he's grown as an artist, he just didn't show that growth on this one.

eminem tried a formula on marshall mathers LP and it workd made him sell 1.8 mill first week
so why not sticking to it
i gotta agree that he sounded better on every LP except this one
i cant see any growth, but its still a nice album IMO
even the trax he sings in it aint like R&B singin its juss his style to put the song out in the way he thinks its gonna deliver the lyrics or the message

CLASSIC.... west is BACK

his developpement stopped after 8 Mile OST. technically, he as at his best then. great production (for his standards), mature tracks, incredible lyrics and solid flow.

when I say 8 Mile OST Im talking about the last CD he put out. of course the songs / verses / beats that Baby G mentioned are Em at his best too.

Encore was a few steps down. pitiful.
Encore is funny with crazy flows and shit, but MC-wise it's not even comparable to 2002 shit of Em.
He went downhill since like 10 months.
Then he started to do singing hooks all the time and whacker "freestyles" and whack verses lean back rmx.

Maybe he just doesnt enjoy rapping anymore. Can't think of another reason, really.

id rate encore > tes, and imo he showed more growth on tes then encore, but encore has better songs.
