 TORONTO (AP) - Vince Carter doesn't want to slam any longer.

The Toronto Raptors' All-Star says he's finished with his high-flying basketball style and that he sees no need to play the way he used to.
"I don't want to dunk anymore," he told the Toronto Star. "You can make a layup and get fouled."

This is the same player who made his name in the NBA by winning the 2000 slam dunk contest. He became world famous for literally jumping over a 7-foot-2 French player to get to the hoop at the Sydney Olympics a few months later.

His name is emblazoned across expensive sneakers not because he can hit a lovely fadeaway jumper -- and he can -- but because he can jump far better than most.

During the 2001 playoffs, he appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated as he drove to the hoop for a dunk. And it was his dunking that led Shaquille O'Neal to dub him, "Half-Man, Half-Amazing."

everybody who knows carter and basketball knows that this is a smart decision.. dunking RUINED him.. it build him up to a dunking-legend and therefore an overrated SG overall, yet, it also destroyed his knee and his career. I hope he gets back in shape and does a cool dunk now and then, he can't keep on dunking like a monster, his knee wouldnt do it

Yeah then he goes out and dunks 3 times last night. I don't know what's up with this guy, he tells the Toronto media after the game that he was just joking when he said that, but trust me, if you saw Vince's face when he was sayin that shit earlier in the day there was no way you could tell he was jokin.

so much for half-man half-amazing. i remember the shit he used to do when he just got in the league.... that shit used to amaze me. I guess it's just a luck thing. Fate pulled a Grant Hill on him. I don't blame him, maybe his knee just can't take all taht pressure.
