Why West Coast Hip-Hop Will Never Re-emerge

Xzbit explained it best in one of his interviews just before the release of Man vs. Machine.
He said, the fascination with hydrolics, bloods, crips, sippin 40's, cadallac 64's, bitches and hoes, can only last for so long. Eventually we had to come up with something else and we never did.
.... Believe me, it ain't because the East Coast is iller than the West Coast. But the West Coast will always be the underdog because the major media and population is more dominant on the East Coast. And the East Coast started hip-hop. So the West has to do that much more to shine.

I agree, at the time the westcoast emerged, media attention in our politics and news was directed out west. It was exposure to the music as well. The south has evolved through this, the west has not.

Actually... It's not just the west coast that will never re-emerge. Most likely, the entire hiphop genre will never again reach the level it had during the 90s.

Hes right.... The whole thing about the west coast, that fans out here dont understand is that alot of us cater too much for one specific type of music. Like we're makin music for our hood, and shit like that.
1. Lyrics-
We cant keep talkin about 60s, and 20s, and B n C shit...cuz NO ONE out there knows what the fuck were talking about and no one cares. I loved this shit till my death, but it only caters to a small group of people, and we're really limiting ourselves with it. People in New York dont care what crip hood youre from.
2. Sound (music).
I love west coast tracks, but we got to start moving away from Zapp and all that bounce clap sound. I know we love that shit out here, but the rest of the country, especially NY thinks that shit is played out and corny. Every time I go out to NY, its the same shit. They never play any of it, but when I bump it out there, they allways laugh and remark on the clap track. If you listen to Dre's shit, and Scott Storch's shit, its definitely west coast...and it aint zapp style west coast tracks. We got to start makin our shit more musical....like orchestral type raw shit.... and we all know the industry is movin away from sampling so it gives our next gen producers to come up with new shit....
Either way, we got cats out from west coast that are gonna be heated in 05. Spit Fiya, Game, Geurilla Black, all these cats is gonna kill the game... Cuz they can flow, and it aint just the same old chicken bone rap, talkin about your 1 street n shit.

X got a point. The subject matter is redundant and boring. We've heard it all over and over and over and over again. Production ain't up to par either.

I agree with that a lot. But I won't say it will NEVER re-emerge because of it. Gangsta rap sold like it did in the early 90s for 100s of reasons...mainly because it was somethin brand new, somethin controversial, somethin that had that IN YO FACE image on lock, and then the fact that the media attention was on us because of shit like the riots and the hood movies.
As far as our sound bein outdated, that is somewhat true. But it continues to amaze me when east coast and down south songs that have a west coast feel get love because its a east or south artist, but they still don't like west coast music. Rick Rock shit like "Change the game" and "Breathe stretch shake" and Lil Jon shit like "Play no games" and "Bitches ain't shit" and Ludas "Spur of the moment" and T.I. and Daz "My life" have a 110% west coast feel to them, but people on those respective coasts love these tracks just because of the artists on them.
