Well I mean, at no point did Dre ever come out and say that he was an 'artist'. From day one, his initial title has been 'producer', hence the fact that we've only had 2 solo albums from him. For Dre to match the dopeness of his production, I guess he feels he has to make sure that the rhymes live up to the beats, so he enlists trustworthy writers to hook him up. I can see why many cats would dog on him for not writing shit himself, but it's not like he's a real 'rapper'. It's like how Eminem is a rapper who produces, Dr. Dre is a producer who raps. Great, well thought out reply.

I wouldn't even call these solo-albums... It's more like Nate Dogg has "Nate Dogg & Friends" and Dre has "The Chronic & 2001". There sure is a difference in quality of those albums though  ;)

But about your point... I don't mind Dre having others to actually rhyme the writes for him. It's been proven, Dre's songs are amazing - often better than the writers/rhymers would write for themselves. Since Dre even makes up the concept for the tracks, you can't complain about his true feelings for the songs either, it's just that he's not good at rhyming so he's getting assistance on that. Be grateful for Dre for admitting that - otherwise he would have had amazing beats, good concepts for songs but wack rhymes. Would be a damn waste.

actually Dr. Dre is just a name. he got ghost writers & ghost producers. that song "Light Speed" on 2001 was produced by Fred Wreck and written by Hittman. if you check out the credits - he dont even play an instrument.

so - Dr. Dre is really just a good mixer (if even that)

Yeah, Dre just does Drum Programing and Mixing with the help of someone else(in 2001 it was Mel-Man). He doesnt play keyboards or any other instruments.

Ice Cube Wrote "Natural Born Killaz" The Whole Thing (Ice Cube Actually Wrote All Of Eazy's Shyt On "Eazy Duz It" And All Of Eazy And Dre's Shyt On "Straight Outta Compton" D.O.C Started Helping More Later With Efil4ziggan, When Cube Left)...RBX and Snoop Wrote "LEt ME Ride"...

Sneed wrote that Natural Born Killaz, it was originally his track.. at least he claims so in Have Gun, Will Travel.. And I always thought Ren wrote most for Dre, and Cube for Eazy in the early NWA days?

You guys are meaning the true meaning of the word, producer.  Quincey Jones didn't get creds by just sending a hot bear over to someone.  He did it with guidance, vision and a drive to make an artist the best they can be.  That is what Dre does, he gets the best out of everyone, he knows how he wants the music and he will make the best come out like a real producer does.

If you wanna know who wrote what for Dre, listen to his flow on the song... more likely than not, he imitates the flow of whoever wrote the song for him... i remember reading that Dre would have some artists record his verses so he could get a proper flow... The obvious examples are the songs written by Knoc and listen to his verse on "Ghetto Fabulous," that was obviously written by Razzy Kazzy... peace
