What happens to the 2nd single of West Coast albums?

wsc released " so many rappers in love" as a promo 12". i´ve heard that that they planned to do a vid 4 it aswell but i guess that never happened.

If an album doesn't have good numbers after the first single, a second single is damn near out the question. Plenty of artists don't release video's for their second single if they haven't done good numbers.

Yeah, I understand. If they're a relatively new artist (or a veteran) and their album hasn't performed to the label's expectationsand drawn in respectable numbers they probably can't afford to spend on videos and promotion for a second single. Either that or the record label pulls the plug after the first, as I suspect may have happened with 213.

Yeah, but it was a double a side single, and the both those videos were pretty low budget, theres no way he'll get a video for the second single (if there even is one)

the world famous beatnuts have never had more than 1 vid per album. so they started doin that thing where they have two half videos for two songs. thats hella lame

Sometimes it's the second or even the third single that becomes a hit and propels album sales. Look at Tribe Called Quest with "Scenario", that song was the third single off that album and became a huge hit. "I Get Around" was the second song released off of 2pac's "Strictly for my NIGGAZ". "Holla if you Hear Me" was the first single and it got no airplay at all. The Fugees first single, "Fugela" got no radio play and very little video play but "Killing Me Softly" caused the group to sell 10 million records.

To me, it seems that not releasing a second single is a bigger risk than releasing one, that second single could blow up.
