Brock Lesnar Files Lawsuit on the WWE
« on: February 08, 2005, 12:33:44 PM »
According to sources, former WWE Champion Brock Lesnar has filed a lawsuit against World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) concerning the prevention of competing, which is the main focus of his active career. The former champion has signed a no compete clause with the promotion last year with after WrestleMania XX due to his wiliness to get out of his contract and lessen his travel schedule.

After leaving World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), he competed in a tryout and made the National Football Leagues (NFL) Minnesota Vikings practice squad. During his run for NFL glory, success quickly soured with no contact between the two parties since the beginning of the football season.

Since he signed a no compete clause provided by the WWE, it prevents him from participating in all wrestling and mix martial arts related events such as the UFC, K-1 & Pride. Therefore, this agreement also complies for all countries outside the United States of America.

In addition, this clause is set to expire on June the 10th 2010, which is said to be a legitimate date agreed to by Lesnar and the WWE.

About two weeks before Wrestlemania the "Super Bowl of Wrestling" Brock Lesnar goes up to Vince McMahon and says..."Can i talk to you for a second? I have been thinking long and hard about this Vince and i have come to the conclusion that i don't want to wrestle anymore.I want to play in the NFL and play for my hometown team, the Minnesota Vikings.Anyways, here's my two week's notice Vinnie! Vince responds,You want to get out of your contract? Well, sign here where it says..."I will no compete for any other wrestling organization until June 30th,2010" and you're free to go! Sure, says Brock. Ha!Ha!Ha! See you later, suckers!!

Fast Forward....

Brock Lesnar gets cut by the Minnesota Vikings, did not even make the practice squad. Brock Lesnar starts calling the WWE asking for Vince and leaving messages...Vince never returns his phone calls....Brock keeps calling and calling and calling before somebody other than Vince answers the phone...Brock Lesnar says...."I want to come back to wrestle but only if i work less dates and have a lighter schedule and i want to be making the outrageous amount of money i was making before i quit!" The WWE replies by saying....
"Uhh...No!" You walked out on the company and the business that made you a star and a millionaire and turn your back on your fellow wrestlers and fans?...Sorry, but the answer is still No!

Update...
Brock Lesnar sues the WWE over the  "No compete" contract he signed. What a Bitch!

He must be broke because he recently put his Harley Davidson bike on ebay for sale!...lol

i think Brock might win it. most wrestlers get a clause of 90 days, but Brock has 6 years.. i think the courts will go in his favour telling Vince to make it 90 days. Since he's done that, he will be wrestling the next day

..but Brock signed that contract... It´s totally fucked but if he is that stupid to sign that shit without even knowing for sure if he has a career outside of wrestling then he must not compete for the next 20 years... alone for his stupidity...  but well... his lawyers claim that the WWE makes it impossible for him to earn his living.. lol WTF?  .. he could still become a taxi driver... duh..  whats up with those stupid laws that seem to just overrule legal contracts... There goes the Pain.. lol

yeah, he signed the contract, but the judge will just look at it and say its a bit unreasonable. maybe not shorten it to the 90 days like other wrestlers, but it wont be stickin to the 6 years. Brock's lawyers will just argue some shit about his mindstate, how he didnt want to be there, would do ANYTHING to get out of WWE etc

if a burgular can break it someones house, cut themselves on a kinfe, sue the home owner and win, Brock is gonna win this

Sure he can become a taxi driver, but you have the right to choose your profession and Vince McMahon is preventing Brock from earning a living in in that profession. I think the Constitution is in Brock's favour. Vince can go fuck himself. For all the dirty shit he's pulled with wrestlers over the years, he deserves to lose this case.

... of course you´re right and I feel the same way and honestly I think Vince should get shot in public for all the shady actions he pulled off in the past... but I just don´t get it why they even make a contract in the first place which Brock gladly signed because he obviously thought that he was too big for wrestling (or whatever) so that he could pursue a career in football.. noone forced him to sign that contract... and I´m sure he was in a clear state of mind and knew that he couldn´t compete for the next 6 years... but thats what he agreed to when he signed it...

I just think its ridicolous that Brock´s lawyers even think that Vince makes it impossible for him to earn money... like its only Vince´s fault.. like I said.. Brock probably knew what he was signing and didnt get forced to do it.. so now he´s fucked.. but he should have considered that before he thought about leaving the company... I agree that 6 years of no competition is a career killer but WWE´s lawyers could also say that they´re just trying to protect their investment (like stated on some wrestling dirt sheet) and don´t want to see him making money for another company after they made a star out of him...

anyway...

I also hope that Vince loses the case because I think that to a high % Brock would end up in UFC cause I don´t think that he would stay the next years in Japan and I highly doubt it that WWE would take him back after that .. lol

I think he was so confident that he'd make the NFL he never thought he'd be back in Wrestling anyway. Of course realization kicked in and Brock figured out football isn't going to happen and he still has to make a living. He went to Vince for his job and Vince wouldn't return his phone calls, thus preventing him from making a living with the WWE or anywhere else. Brock is now doing what he has to do to provide for his daughter. He doesn't want to come back full time because he wants to be with his kid. I'd rather he be a good father than a good WWE employee. He can go to Japan over UFC because Japan is way bigger money. In pro wrestling, Japan works in tours. He'd go away for a few weeks then spend months at home waiting for the next tour. It's the best fit for him.

The following comes from The Connecticut Post:

Wrestler grapples with WWE barriers

By MICHAEL P. MAYKO mmayko@ctpost.com

BRIDGEPORT — Brock Lesnar's 6-foot-3, 295-pound frame enabled him to tear through opponents on his way to World Wrestling Entertainment's most coveted title.

Now, Lesnar wants to take on the entire WWE.

On Monday, he challenged the Stamford-based sports entertainment company — known for Wrestlemania, Monday Night Raw and Smackdown — to a constitutional rights match that could take place in downtown Hartford.

In a suit filed in Bridgeport federal court, Lesnar claims an agreement he signed when he left WWE is standing in the way of his career. The suit was assigned to the Hartford courthouse.

The war arises over a settlement Lesnar signed in order to leave the WWE last year for a failed bid to join the National Football League's Minnesota Vikings. Lesnar was cut during training camp and was not on the list of players the Vikings recently designated to NFL Europe.

"He really wanted to try his hand at football," said David Bradley Olsen, Lesnar's Minneapolis-based lawyer. "He gave it his best shot but not having played since high school hurt."

As a wrestler, Lesnar became an All-American and captured national championships at Bismarck State Junior College in North Dakota and the University of Minnesota.

He signed his first contract with WWE on June 9, 2000, which led to his making at least $1 million a year.

On Aug. 25, 2002, the WWE made him World Heavyweight Champion in a match in which he beat "The Rock," now star of the movie remakes of "Walking Tall" and "The Longest Yard."

Lesnar, dubbed "The Next Big Thing," captured the championship three times. His tearful farewell performance took place last March 14, when he lost to "Goldberg," a former NFL player.

Olsen pointed out that Lesnar's final booking contract prohibited him from working for any non-WWE wrestling organization in the United States for a year.

But an April 2004 settlement agreement that Lesnar signed to break that last booking contract prohibits him from appearing, participating in or associating with any professional wrestling, ultimate fighting or any sports entertainment enterprise through June 30, 2010.

"So what it's saying is he can't work in his chosen line of profession anywhere in the entire world for the next five years," said Olsen. "That's so broad."

Olsen wants a federal judge to declare the agreement void because it's "overly broad, unreasonable, oppressive, unfair and inequitable."

"As a professional athlete, Lesnar has only a limited window of opportunity during which youth and physical conditioning allow him to maximize his potential earnings," Olsen pointed out in the suit.

"Lesnar is 27 years old and in the prime of his athletic career," he said. "On June 30, 2010, when the purported restrictions on competition expire, Lesnar will be 33 years old, which for a professional athlete is an age at which many consider retirement due to the physical demands of their chosen operation."

But, Wade Keller, editor of Pro Wrestling Torch.com ( www.pwtorch.com , believes Lesnar is "dead wrong."

"The WWE invested a lot of time and money to give him star power and make him a major part of their organization," Keller said. "He could go to work for a competitor like [Total Nonstop Action Wrestling] or one in Japan, where wrestling is huge and WWE is trying to maintain a following."

Jerry McDevitt, WWE's lawyer, said the organization will fight the suit. "We put a ton of money and time into promoting him as a star," McDevitt said, adding Lesnar agreed to the separation stipulations.

These days, Lesnar is "just doing a lot of hunting and fishing," said Olsen.

Keller said Lesnar is preparing for his spring marriage to Rena Mero, the former WWE diva and Playboy centerfold known as Sable.

There is Internet gossip that Lesnar will return to the WWE for a May 22 appearance in Minneapolis.

But Gary Davis, a WWE spokesman, denied that.

"I'll bet if Lesnar agreed to come back under the terms of the contract he had when he left, the WWE would allow it," Keller said. "But I hear he wants less dates and less travel."

If that's the case, Lesnar's next appearance will be the grudge match in the federal courthouse in Hartford. Assigned as the special referee is former U.S. attorney and current U.S. District Judge Christopher Droney.
