It's different from the way Christians do it.  Technically, Christians are supposed to take the whole day off on their day of worship. 

Our fridays are not a full day of worship, we just simply come together for the midday prayer, and then after that we can leave and go back to work or whatever we were doing.  At a Muslim mosque, there is a large gathering for prayer at all of the 5 prayers, every day throughout the whole week.  The midday Friday prayer is the largest gathering, and it is preceded by a 30 minute talk by the Imam.
