How many mics for Ice Cube - War?

This album is in my opinion heavily underrated.

Beats are of the hook. It was a completly new sound when released. It has some kind of movie feel to it. Notice that it's released in 1998, a year before Dre's 2001. It sounds a little like Dre's Aftermath compilation album, qua strings and effects, but more clean, more fresh and more uptempo. Even today it still sounds on point.

Short Khop is also on point and a welcome sidekick to Cube who is razorsharp on the mic. Even more aggressive than on Bow Down. Ghetto Vet is probably one of the dopest concept songs ever.

The hiphopaudience at the time wasn't into gangsterrap that much. Pac and Big just died. People wanted to hear music with a positive message. I remember it receiving 3 and a half mic in the Source.

What if this album was released today? How many mics would you give it?

It's a great album. I was surprised he still had it after not releasing an album for a while. The peace disc on the other hand = blah.

I'd have to give it 4 mics easy. Doesn't sound much dated and beats much of the quality of hip hop today.

I'd give it 4 mics..."Fuck Dying", "Penitentiary", & "Ask About Me" are my favorites..."War & Peace", "Dr. Frankenstein", & "Ghetto Vet" are really well done too...
